MoreJoy Radio

The “Story” of MoreJoy Radio is hard to write for me. The “Story” includes a lot of I/me statements because right now MoreJoy Radio is me. My name is Lee M. Bailey. I have always been attracted to the microphone. When I was a baby my dad tried to get me to say my first word into the mic of his reel to reel machine. In High School at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, VA I MC’d many talent shows and “Ram Jams”. I dreamed of being a radio DJ so I did it. I dreamed of doing sports, on television and radio, so I did it. I had my own Dj business for parties, school dances, weddings etc. After going to a Washington Capitals game as a kid and hearing the power their public address announcer had over all those fans I dreamed of doing that also, and I did. As I went along doing all of these things for other people who were in charge I really wanted to be in charge and make some of my ideas and dreams happen and come true. I dreamed of having my own radio station and sports television channel.

Many obstacles were in the way, like “a family”, “job”, “volunteer work”, “money”, “church” and anything else I could think of to delay myself. Yes, I fabricated these obstacles because of the largest reason for not starting my own radio station, “Fear of Failure”, so I put it off everytime I felt like it was ready to happen. I would always tell people of my aspirations and I would lay out the plan I dreamed about everytime I closed my eyes. Everyone I told would always say “that sounds awesome” or “that would work” or “let me know I’d be glad to get involved”. Those statements of encouragement always buoyed my resolve to make it happen, but the largest obstacle kept rearing it’s ugly head. Last year my Uncle Mack and his two 20 something boys came for the holidays. I was telling Philip, probably for the umpteenth time, about my dream and how I had narrowed my focus to an online radio station. Philip looked me dead in the eyes and said “stop talking about it! just do it man!, just do it” (a few months ago Philip crashed his van in the Bavarian mountains of Germany, where he lived, and he died). While I grieved I began to really look into online radio station platforms. I started to doubt that I could pull it all together. “Wow this has a lot of logistics involved, and you’re not very organized Lee, you’ll probably fail miserably” whispered that little sucker sitting on my shoulder. At this point, two crucial things happened, I heard about a book title that made a big impact on me. Bobby Bones, a syndicated radio show host, was promoting his second book on his radio show. The book was titled “FAIL UNTIL YOU DON’T”. About the same time my friend Jeff Fitzgerald told me about LIVE365 which was a radio station platform that, with your subscription fee, included licensing to play copyrighted material. That clinched it! Now I knew that with all of the friends and family in my corner supporting me and with all of the people I had come to know and care about in my 40+ years living, growing, serving and entertaining here in Northern Virginia I was confident my dream could become reality. Well guess what? Whoever is reading this right now I submit that, whether you know me or have just “happened upon” (yeah no) this MoreJoy Radio FB page, you can and perhaps feel the same way I do. Something must be done to combat this horrible and purposely scary trend toward negative outlooks and actions. I feel there is a better way. I am embarking on a mission to build Love into the narrative in such a way that it will regain its authority and dominance over the opposite (I don’t even want to speak the words anymore). Join me in this mission. Start with those three little words that pack the biggest, most encouraging, strongest healing punch in all of history; I LOVE YOU!
