Our Story
BACKGROUND INFORMATION Are, are traditional Arts such as music, dances or even story telling are dying away. Even within Solomon Islands as a nation, people are losing theses valuable elements of their various societies. Some of these forms of art have been neglected for a very long time. Even to this very day, nothing has been done to make our people realize that they have traditional and sustainable resources that they can venture into to support them and become valuable to their societies. Over looking these important elements of the society, young people tend to migrate into urban areas and involve in unproductive activities. Not only that but they value foreign forms of art and ignore their indigenous art elements. Moreover, traditional forms of art have been passed orally from generation to generation in the past. Hence, it does change, forgotten and modified through this process. For instance, Pan pipe a traditional musical instrument itself, now being replaced with PVC pipes. Traditional songs and dances have been modified overtime. The problem faced by our societies need to be addressed since these precious traditional and unique elements are changing, modified and are now dying. It is alarming rate at which this is happening and if nothing is done, Are, are and the Solomon Islands in general will lose their identities. As such, conducting field researches, interviews, visual documentation, audio recording and production will help this generation to know their identities in today’s changing world minimize the problem faced by this society.
