Call for Papers: Indigenous Action for Environmental Justice

This call invites researchers interested in the field of Environmental Psychology to participate in the special issue: Indigenous Action for Environmental Justice, to be published in the Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology (JSACP).

Potential contributions should be relevant to a wide audience of readers including counselors, psychologists, and related human service professionals as well as students and educators. Policy makers, community organizers, and activists also should find the content to be informative and relevant to their work.

Please remember that JSACP features action-oriented articles, meaning manuscripts that discuss actual work (e.g., advocacy, activism, research, policy formulation and implementation, training, legislation) that has been conducted by the submitting author(s) and not proposed work or simple conceptualizations of issues. To be considered, these articles must include empirical data.

Thematic lines of this Special Issue
• Indigenous actions to protect eco-cultural places.
• Indigenous actions on environmental education.
• Environmental advocacy by indigenous communities.
• Indigenous innovations for sustainability.

Guest Editor
Camila Pérez Huenteo, Ph.D. (Adventist University, Chile).

See what is new in the Journal for Social Action, Counseling, and Psychology!
“Community Engagement Training and Research in Counseling Psychology: A Two-Part Pilot Study” by Amanda S. Case and Abigail Hoxsey from Purdue University, US.
In this paper, Amanda and Abigail present a still unanswered question: To what extent do Counseling Psychology -CPSY programs offer training to prepare scholars to engage in community-based research? The authors carried out a two-pilot study consisting of a content analysis and a qualitative survey to bring an overview of all the elements that permeate the question. From content analysis, they chose flagship journals in the field of Counseling Psychology and, not surprisingly, found papers addressing the topic conceptually and the underrepresentation of empirical work on how to get access to the community field and how to approach action-participatory research properly. Based on four dimensions to classify the papers- Training Experiences, Program Emphasis on Community Engagement, Preparation to Conduct Community Engagement Work, and Alignment between actual and desired training- they proceeded with a survey with 36 individuals regarding their experiences in training and research on CPSY. Most participants reported receiving less training than they wanted in community engagement. These results show how important it is to maintain community engagement strategies to achieve CPSY core values, such as social justice, multiculturalism, and equity. To pursue them, a communication claim about the studies done in the field also needs to be fulfilled.
Thus, let's make your study in the field of CPSY known! Publish in the JSACP! It is an open-access free journal publishing empirical studies on Activism and Advocacy, Policy and Theory, Education and Training, and Program Development and Evaluation.

Mission: The Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology promotes deep reflection on community change and system transformation in which counselors, psychologists, and other human service professionals play a role. This open access Journal aims to highlight ‘engaged scholarship’ and the very important social change work done by professionals and activists that would not normally find its way into publication. The Journal attempts to break down the divide between theory and practice in one of the most critical areas of our work: social transformation toward social and ecological justice and peace. This Journal features action-oriented articles, meaning manuscripts that discuss actual work (e.g., advocacy, activism, research, policy formulation and implementation, training, legislation) that has been conducted by the submitting author(s) and not proposed work or simple conceptualizations of issues. Articles submitted to the Journal are subjected to a masked (double-blind peer) review.

Supreme Court Justice Stephe Breyer lead a lecture at Harvard saying he fears that people view the Supreme Court as led by politics rather than law. "These…reinforce the thought, likely already in the reader’s mind, that Supreme Court justices are primarily political officials…rather than jurists" Learn more what he means here: https://www.scotusblog.com/2021/04/in-harvard-speech-breyer-speaks-out-against-court-packing/

Emphasizing that the Supreme Court’s authority hinges on the public’s trust in the court, Justice Stephen Breyer used a speech on Tuesday at Harvard Law School to argue against efforts to expand the number of seats on the Supreme Court. The 82-year-old Breyer contended that public trust in the c...
