VT- Border Patrol Agent David Maland, 44, was shot and killed during a traffic stop. One suspect, a German national here on a visa, was killed by return fire from backup officers; another was wounded and is in federal custody.
Agent Maland was a K-9 handler and an Air Force veteran who was serving at the Pentagon on 9/11. He was assigned to the Swanton Sector after transferring from a unit in Texas.
He was a son, a brother, and a friend. He was real, with real people who loved him.

Great Work!!

Game Wardens Tyler Willen and Sgt. Ethan Vincent followed up on a complaint stemming from early muzzleloader deer season. Through their investigation and an interview, they determined that two individuals in Edmonson Co. killed a deer with a modern rifle during the two-day muzzleloader season. Charges included Illegal Take of Deer, Minor Hunting Unaccompanied, Falsifying Tele-Check Information, and Failure to Tele-Check.

Earlier today, while on patrol in Twiggs County, Game Warden Wes Freeman encountered a group of duck hunters on a private pond. Upon inspection, he discovered that the group had taken 28 ducks over the legal bag limit. Citations were issued and the ducks were donated to local veterans support group.

Sometimes the first time is not effective

On November 15th, 2024, Conservation Officers were working in Charlestown focusing on detection and apprehension of illegal night hunters. Approximately 40 minutes after the end of legal shooting hours, a Conservation Officer observed a truck enter a field and use the headlights of the truck to locate deer while a passenger utilized a spotlight to attempt to locate deer. Upon stopping the vehicle, two Sulivan County men were found in the truck. A cocked crossbow was found on the lap of the passenger, who's hunting privileges were currently under suspension for a previous night hunting conviction. A compound bow was found in the vicinity of the driver. Both men were charged with multiple wildlife crimes to include night hunting, hunting under suspension, trespassing while hunting, a cocked crossbow in a motor vehicle and no name and address on bolts. Both men have plead guilty to all charges, a total of $2,976 was paid in fines, 8 years of hunting privileges suspended and the forfeiture of a crossbow, compound bow, lights, and all other implements that were used in commission of their wildlife crimes.

In late 2023, an 18-point trophy whitetail buck was taken illegally in Ohio. After an intense, high-profile investigation, several men pleaded guilty and were sentenced. The ringleader of the group also pled guilty and was sentenced this week to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay a combined $43,000 in penalties. Tune in below, and everywhere you get your podcasts.
