Meet Mahogany

She was born to a Jamaican father and a Chinese mother. A fusion of cultures that should have been celebrated but instead left her feeling like she belonged nowhere.

Her Jamaican relatives questioned her Chinese heritage, while her Chinese relatives saw her as too Jamaican. Her friends embraced her uniqueness. They would often times call her “Mami”, a nickname she wore proudly as a badge of honor.

Despite the love and acceptance she found with her friends, Mahogany struggled to reconcile her identity. As she grew older, the weight of her childhood trauma became heavier, and she turned to drinking to numb the pain. Parties became her escape, a temporary reprieve from the constant battle to fit in.

Kandy’s story is one of resilience and redemption. Despite the hurtful words and taunts she endured as a child, she never lost her inner strength.

Yet, the scars left by those cruel words ran deep, shaping her view of herself. In a world that seemed to judge her worth by the shade of her skin.

Kandy sought solace in the attention of men who promised validation in exchange for her body.
