A minutes silence was held and our lads wore black armbands as a mark of respect to the O’Brien and Conroy families.

All the plaudits tonight go to Paul Brennan, Ger Fitz, Emilyn O’ Reilly and the ground staff for having the pitch in top shape.

It's not a call we get often but one we were more than happy to help with. Last night Laois Roads Policing Unit transported a patient from Laois who was called to attend Beaumont Hospital for a kidney transplant. They were in difficulty with transportation so we duly obliged and got them to Dublin in time for their procedure. We would like to wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.

Ross Munnelly retires after 20 years service to his County.
Laois GAA pay huge respect to Ross Munnelly and all he has achieved in a long and distinguished career, which for Laois commenced on the pitch in 2003, when he was first brought into the panel by Mick O'Dwyer as a 20-year-old.

His career highlight is surely that great Leinster final win under Micko in 2003 - where he scored 1-1 from wing forward that day - though representing Ireland in the International Rules on two occasions is another great honour. He was also nominated for an All-Star in 2003, 2005 and 2006.

He departs the inter-county scene as the longest serving inter-county player in Gaelic football along with Niall McNamee and, surely as one of its most respected.
Having played over 200 games for his county, it's easy to see why.

Laois GAA wish him a happy retirement.

He could be forgiven, given his longevity, for going on in his retirement statement but unassuming as ever, he kept it short and sweet.

Life begins at 40
