President Tinubu Declares Six-Month Free Ride On Abuja Metro Rail.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also called the Metro Rail, for the next six months until the end of the year.

The President gave the approval during his address at the inauguration of the commencement of operations of the Abuja metro rail in Abuja on Wednesday.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered the Police to evict the reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from the Emir’s Palace in Kofar Kudu area of Kano metropolis of Kano State.

Ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, on Tuesday, the court, presided over by Justice S. A. Amobeda, also ordered the police to ensure all rights and privileges due to Emir Bayero were given to him.

The court also restrained the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in the State, and the seven other respondents in the suit from denying Bayero the use of his official residence at the Emir’s Palace in Kofar Kudu area of the city, as well as enjoyment of all rights and privileges accrued to him by virtue of being the Emir of Kano.

The judge, who granted the order after hearing from M.L. Yusufari, SAN, appearing with Abdul Muhammad, SAN, Abdul Adamu Fagge, Esq, Abdulrazak A. Ahmad, Esq, and Bashiru Ibrahim, Esq, who are counsels for the applicant, said the move was in the interest of justice and the maintenance of peace in Kano State.

Labour rejects federal government #60,000 minimum wage proposal, demand #494,000.

Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), turned down the government offer of #60,000 as the new minimum wage of workers.
This marks a shift from their earlier demand of #497,000 to #494,000

The negotiations remain deadlocked as today’s meeting ended without agreement.

Mr Joe Ajero the NLC president described the government proposal as “unsubstantial”.

Peter Obi speaks on what will make him support PDP-LP merger ahead of 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has explained what will make him consider a merger between the LP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Obi spoke in an interview on Noire TV-Global Black TV during the weekend.

He reacted to the possibility of being supported as a southeast candidate in the 2027 presidential election by Atiku Abubakar, which he said he appreciated.
Obi said: “I commend him. And I’m grateful for his statements. Especially where he said he will support me if it (the presidential ticket) goes to the South-East.”

Peter obi however, noted that his primary concern is not personal ambition or political maneuvering, but rather the well-being of Nigeria and its people.
“I’m not desperate to be president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work, especially for the poor people because we have a lot of potential”.

On the potential merger between the PDP and LP, Obi said he is open to the idea, provided that the goal is to better govern Nigeria and unlock its vast potential.
“If the merger is to be able to govern Nigeria properly, unlock all those things that will make Nigeria a better place, I’m for it,” he said, adding that he has no interest in mergers or alliances solely to secure power or win elections.

“If it’s just a merger for election or state capture, I’m not for it. I don’t want to be part of anything like that,” he said.
According to him, unity and cooperation among individuals and parties is a welcome development, only if the objective is to build a better Nigeria.
Peter Obi said: “It might be at the party level, it might be at the individual level. Might be at any level. But we must come together to be able to build a better Nigeria.”

Three dead, seven injured in Lagos mosque collapse

Three persons were yesterday confirmed dead and seven injured in a collapsed mosque on Yusuf street mushin Lagos state.

LASEMA said five people were rescued and that only one person died. But residents and eye-witness accounts disputed the figure.They said no fewer than seven people died while over 10 were injured.

Eye witness said the incident occurred when the driver of an escavator working very close to the mosque unknowingly hit the foundation of the holy house and brought down the one-storey edifice.

Efforts were ongoing to bring out trapped individuals from the rubbles. But, a girl of about 10 years old was brought out dead.
One of the survivors, Adeniji Muniru, said: “We were almost at the end of the solat, when we heard a very loud sound. Before we could do anything, the building came down on us and everyone ran for safety. About 30 of us managed to escape from the rubbles while others were still trapped.

"Paris-Bound Businessman Excretes 111 Wraps Of ¢0 ¢ |n£ At Abuja Airport" – NDLEA

The National Dru Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have arrested a 48-year-old Paris, France-bound businessman, Emmanuel Okechuku Orjinze, for ingesting 111 wraps of ¢0 ¢ |n£, which he ex¢r£ted after days of observation in the agency’s custody following his arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

This was disclosed by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday.

He said that Okechukwu, who also claims he is a professional footballer in Europe, was arrested on Tuesday May 21, during the outward clearance of Airfrance flight AF 878 from Abuja to Paris, France.

“After a body scan confirmed he ingested illi¢|t dru #?gs, he was taken into custody where he ex¢reted a total of 111 pellets of ¢0 ¢a #|n£ that weighed 1.603 kilograms over a period of three days.

“The §u§pe¢t claimed he does business in the maritime sector while still scouting for any European football club to engage him,” Babafemi said.

The Nigerian currency has suffered another loss against dollar.

Naira has suffered a significant loss against the United States dollar, trading at N1,485/$1 in the official market. This represents a decline of N23 compared to the previous day’s rate of N1,462/$1.
According to data from the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), the naira’s value has been volatile in recent days, with a series of gains and losses against various currencies.
KEY POINTS
– The naira lost N23 against the dollar, trading at N1,485/$1.
– The currency also slumped in the parallel market, trading at N1,506/$1.
– However, the naira gained value against the British pound (N1,880/£1) and the Euro (N1,570/€1).
– The Canadian dollar closed flat against the naira (N1,200/CA$1).

"If Dem Born You Well, Show Your Face; I Won’t Vacate Office On June 16, Rivers LG Chairman Dares Governor Fubara"

The Chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, has vowed not to vacate his office at the end of his tenure on June 16.

In a viral video circulated on Thursday, Nwanosike directly addressed the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, stating his intention to remain in office beyond the stipulated date.

He cited an extension of tenure by state lawmakers under the leadership of Martin Amaghule as justification, due to the state government’s failure to conduct local government elections.

He declared, “Let them come and try to remove me if they dare. The countdown begins—23 more days to go.”

Nwanosike also challenged those questioning the authority of Martin Amaewhule, stating, “Who are you to say Martin Amaewhule is not the Rivers House of Assembly Speaker?

“If Amaewhule declares that the governor’s failure to conduct local government elections means I should remain in office, then I will stay in office. This is the law in Rivers State.”

He further warned potential challengers, “We don’t wear jeans in Ikwerre Local Government. We wear white, we tie wrappers, we wear Ogbakata. Come and disobey the law, we will wait for you. The law of Nigeria is the law passed by Martin Amaewhule. If you have the courage, show your face.”
