The Solid Verbal America's College Football Podcast since 2008 The Solid Verbal is a twice-weekly college football podcast with Ty Hildenbrandt and Dan Rubenstein.
(100)

Ty lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Dan lives in New York City. The show was conceived while the hosts were doing work for SI.com — Ty was writing a weekly “Quick Slants” college sports column; Dan was shooting his popular “SI Tour Guy” video series. The thinking was that creating a fan-centric college football podcast would fill a giant niche. The Solid Verbal was born in August of 2008. As of t

he 2009 season, The Solid Verbal was both the highest rated and most popular, independently-run college football podcast on the web. Featured by iTunes on several occasions, the show has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times and boasts thousands of listeners (or “Verballers”) in every corner of the globe. Guests have ranged in name from prominent bloggers to popular reporters to well-known current-and-former head coaches. In September 2011, The Solid Verbal joined forces with Grantland.com, providing the Grantland Network Podcast with a weekly college football recap show. As of the 2012 season, The Solid Verbal teamed up with SBNation Studios to create a weekly simulcast that Verballers can watch live. The Solid Verbal continues through the regular season, post-season, and off-season, because people don’t just love college football, they live it.

🎃 WEEK 10 PREVIEW!

It's Halloween and some of these point spreads are tight! In this episode, we break down the big matchup between Ohio State and Penn State, wonder whether Oregon-Michigan can get cheesy, debate the possibility of South Carolina dumping Texas A&M, and bask in the glow of what should be a great game between Pitt and SMU matchup. Plus, we wonder whether Florida can keep it close with Georgia, if Manny Diaz can exact revenge on Miami, if Ole Miss is in danger in Fayetteville, if Diego Pavia can stick it to Hugh Freeze again, if Michigan State can give Indiana a run, and much more.

On our Week 9 recap episode of The Solid Verbal college football podcast, we take a look at Ryan Day’s Ohio State *barely* surviving Matt Rhule’s Nebraska team… at home… after a bye. We look at the seemingly curious decisions of OC Chip Kelly and the offensive gameplan with a (very good!) Will Howard behind a (beat up) offensive line, leading to a lot of struggles in the run game, weirdly at the expense of a very successful passing attack against the Huskers.

On our Week 9 recap episode of The Solid Verbal college football podcast, we take a look at the impressive job Mike Elko’s Texas A&M team was able to do at home against a dangerous LSU squad, led by head coach Brian Kelly. We talk about swings in momentum, changes at QB (welcome back, Marcel Reed!), and the ability of the Aggies to not only claw back, but win in resounding, complete fashion.

On our Week 9 recap episode of The Solid Verbal college football podcast, we take a look at the very odd game between Luke Fickell’s Wisconsin and James Franklin’s Penn State. We look at how Penn State adjusted once forced to go to backup QB Beau Pribula after starter Drew Allan sustained some kind of lower leg injury. We also look at the bigger picture issues that seem to still be plaguing Wisconsin’s offense in year two of the Fickell era, even with the Badgers comfortable wins these past few weeks.

☀️ BIG TEN BREAKFAST: WEEK 9

On the latest episode of BIG TEN BREAKFAST, we play a college football game of THIS or THAT involving different teams, asking the following questions:

• Is Illinois a legitimate top 20 team with the ability to put a scare into Oregon on the road?

• Is what we saw from Nebraska last week and the weeks prior on offense who they truly are, especially ahead of their Ohio State matchup?

• Has Wisconsin truly turned a corner or is it just their opponent level?

• Is Michigan State surging past Michigan ahead of their rivalry game Saturday?

• Is Indiana all Kurtis Rourke and in trouble without him... or is the program bigger than any one QB?

We also (virtually) stop by Marigold Kitchen in Madison to plan out our eventual breakfast feast!

☀️ BIG TEN BREAKFAST: WEEK 8!

On this week's episode of Big Ten Breakfast, our college football ode to the midwest (and beyond), we discuss whether certain Big Ten teams either have the juice to compete the rest of the year or need a jolt of college football caffeine to maximize their efforts. We look at Wisconsin (Offense? Maybe happening?), Iowa (Was the Washington game real?), Nebraska (Already maximizing?), Michigan (oh boy), Illinois (Things get real quickly), and USC (Panic? Relax?) on our journey. What do you think?
