Global Health: Science and Practice (GHSP) is intended to be a resource for public health professionals who design, implement, manage, evaluate, and otherwise support health programs in low- and middle-income countries. GHSP fills an important gap in the scholarly literature for evidence and experience from global health programs implemented under real-world conditions, with specifics on the “how”

of implementation—lessons and detail that are often buried in gray literature or not documented at all. It is published quarterly (March, June, September, December). The journal is published by the Knowledge SUCCESS led by Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs and funded by USAID.

The authors of this commentary argue that English hegemony limits the representation of diverse populations, further burdens already-disadvantaged groups, opposes global localization and power-shifting priorities, and stifles innovation by inhibiting the dissemination of learning published in languages other than English. To fully embrace locally led development, they argue that global health must grapple with English language dominance and take actions toward becoming a more linguistically inclusive community.

🌍 Global health knowledge shouldn't be locked behind a paywall. 🔐 That's why this week, we’re celebrating International Open Access Week 2024. 📖

✨📚 CCP is proud to lead the Global Health: Science and Practice Journal (GHSP). Funded by USAID - US Agency for International Development, GHSP is one of only three top global health journals offering diamond open access, meaning it is completely free for both authors and readers.

💡 Why does this matter? Open access levels the playing field by ensuring that critical global health data and research is accessible to all, especially to those in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). By removing financial barriers, GHSP enables researchers from nearly 100 LMICs to share insights and improve health programming in their communities. 📊

🔔 Stay tuned this week as we share what open access means to us and how we’re putting community over commercialization.

The authors of this article discuss the evolution of FP2020 and FP2030 country commitments on the needs of adolescents and youth sexual and reproductive health. While FP2030 commitments better articulate strategies and activities to reach adolescents and youth with family planning (FP) information and services compared to FP2020 commitments, gaps remain. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, countries should continue to invest in creating and funding comprehensive FP commitments that meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents and youth. The authors of this article document how emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) uptake may increase for young people, first-time users, and those living in rural areas of Malawi by offering the method through public, youth-serving channels, especially youth clubs and community health workers. A national strategy focused specifically on this product can help grow ECP demand; however, the supply chain for ECPs must be strengthened to meet the additional demand. https://tinyurl.com/2k7s7227
