Allow London based producer Fortresses to take you on a blissful journey through the clouds to ease you into the weekend. Fortresses is the Ambient project of London-based multidisciplinary artist Sam Ashton.

Sam describes the mix as “a selection of old, new, and as-yet unreleased pieces of Ambient music that are providing a lot of inspiration for my own work.

The mix includes contemporary takes on New Age aesthetic, grainy lo-fi loops enshrouded in tape hiss, and expansive Dark Ambient atmospheres.”

Just under a month since the release of TDR002, Tarotplane - The Ektachrome Dawn.

The response and feedback for the album has been amazing. We just want to say a massive thank you to all those that have purchased a copy so far and especially those who have included tracks on recent podcasts and radio shows.

The Vision Reels has produced a few exceptional ambient records over the last couple years on re:st ,Kizen Records en and his own Captured Vision. We are definitely looking forward to future releases from the producer.

The mix is a live recording taken from the Unknown Species boat party back in July and presents a diverse range of ambient and downtempo/idm. With some unreleased tracks thrown in too.

We are thrilled to have awakened souls, the stunning collaborative project from James and Cynthia Bernard, up next on our mix series.

Some words on the mix from awakened souls "Our upcoming record, Night Songs (coming to Past Inside on March 18th) is an ode to sleep and rest. We decided to center this mix around songs which have helped calm our minds after dark. Some songs are recent discoveries, while others have been bringing us comfort for many years. Petteril makes emotive, textural, electroacoustic music inspired by the complexities of the human condition, nature and the parallels between the two. Using a dying accordion, baritone guitar, field recordings and electronics, Petteril improvises, manipulates and processes sound to craft narrative driven musical collages—a cathartic response to personal struggles and rural remote living.

Petteril’s debut EP ‘CYRE’—released on Puremagnetik —was featured in Bandcamp’s ‘Best of Ambient’ September 2021 and is definitely worth checking if you have not already.

So for the final mix of the year in the Take a Trip series we have hinako omori, a musician and composer from Yokohama, Japan, based in London.

Hinako's own production combines ambient space-synths with field recordings and ethereal vocals.

For the mix Hinako decided to do a sonic representation of a dream they had recently, which they scrawled into their notes when they woke up one morning - all the tracks are chosen around the theme of the dream.

[dream] : Walking around the Swiss alps on a day off, and I get lost trying to record the sound of icicles. I take a train towards the mountains to a large film auditorium, where the whole class is sat round wearing headphones. The ground is springy and spongy.
