WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House on Sunday, ending his bid for reelection following a disastrous debate with Donald Trump that
President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
The president was scheduled to speak at the UnidosUS conference in Las Vegas. He first tested positive for Covid-19 in July 2022.
CNN reports the president has received his first dose of the antiviral drug Paxlovid and will be self-isolating at his home in Delaware.
Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson has announced he is stepping down from his role. In a letter released by the university, Robinson says in part that while he may be stepping from the presidency, it's not a farewell. Robinson will return as a Distinguished Service Professor in the School of the Environment.

Talk about centennial magic! B-CU graduate Magnolia Jackson recently celebrated her 106th birthday at Walt Disney World. It was the first time she visited the most magical place on earth.
Jackson's actual birthday is Thursday (March 14). She attended the Florida Classic college football game in Orlando last fall and saw Mickey Mouse perform on the field in his drum major outfit, which fueled her love for Disney.
Jackson is the oldest living graduate of Bethune-Cookman University.

Mainland makes state history; B-CU makes national news over coach
Florida A&M University’s head football coach announced his resignation on Monday.
UPDATE: Mainland (14-1) won its first football state title since 2003. Jacob Gettman's 23 yard field goal as time expired lifted the Mainland to a 21-19 win over the St Augustine Yellow Jackets in the class 3S state championship game in front of 3,600 fans at Ken Riley Field in Bragg Memorial Stadium on the campus of Florida A&M in Tallahassee.
The win is also bitter sweet as the Buccaneers finished the job after falling short in last years title game.
Dennis DJ Murray threw for a touchdown and ran for a 33 yard score garnering MVP honors for Mainland.
St Augustine (13-1) led 13-0 at halftime thanks to an opening Kickoffreturn touchdown by Trenton Jones and a blocked field goal return for a score by Marquise King.
Clearance McLoed had a touchdown catch and Rodney Hill ran for a score for the Buccaneers.
Lackland Hewitt also threw a touchdown pass to Carl Jenkins Jr for the Yellow Jackets.
The Mainland Buccaneers are headed to the 3S State Championship in Tallahassee on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m.

DEVELOPING: A historic two-story building in Daytona Beach, once known as the Campbell Hotel, caught fire Monday morning. The Daytona Times is working on confirming details.
The historic hotel, located at 537 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., was one of the few Black hotels during the Jim Crow Era, owned by Minnie Wiggins Campbell and Leigh Campbell during the 1950's. It also housed the Stardust nightclub, which hosted many Black jazz artists during the era.

The Volusia County Chapter of the Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune National Alumni Association (formerly the Bethune-Cookman University National Alumni Association) held a ceremony commemorating Dr. Bethune’s 148th birthday in front of her bronze statue inside the Riverfront Esplanade on Beach Street on Monday.
The location is at the corner of the boulevard that bears her name. The event, held on July 10, was her actual birthday.

A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect in Daytona due to a break in a 16-inch water pipe for a minimum of 48 hours or until the bacteriological results come back satisfactory. The break caused a temporary drop in the water pressure; however, the city’s water system is back to normal pressure. All water used for consumption – drinking and cooking water, making ice, brushing teeth, etc. – should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute. This boil water advisory does not pertain to other water uses. For more information about steps to take during a boil water advisory, visit this CDC webpage.
