THE CONCERTS:
2nd of February
Khoury / Yassine Duo
After performing in many projects as sidemen, Elie Khoury [Charbel Rouhana group] and Khaled Yassine [Anouar Brahem Quartet] decided to explore the possibilities of oriental instrumental music from a duo perspective. The fresh and intense melodic lines of khoury’s oud and buzuk blended perfectly with the warm rhythmic texture of Yassine’s percussions to create a soundscape where the boundaries of melodic and percussion instruments are no more present. The concert will feature original compositions from their upcoming album on Edict Records.
3rd of February
Tarek Yamani Trio
The New York based composer and jazz pianist Tarek Yamani, will be visiting Beirut to perform some of his new compositions and a selection of standards from the jazz repertoire featured in his debut album as bandleader “ASHUR” [to be released soon on Edict Records] accompanied by Kristijan Krajncan on drums and Goran Krmac on tuba. His virtuosity and fluid improvisational abilities make every tune of his set list, a special experience by itself. Tarek is the winner of the “Thelonious Monk International Composers Competition” for the year 2010.
4th of February
Basel Rajoub Quartet
Rajoub is a saxophone player with a unique tone, and a solid background in western classical music, jazz and oriental music. In this project he gathers three of the “most demanded” musicians on the Arabic music scene: Khaled Yassine on percussions, Feras Shahrestane on Qanun and Elie Afif on double bass, for a rare adventure into contemporary oriental music.
