FIFA President Gianni Infantino is set to attend the Sudan Derby between South Sudan and Sudan at Juba Stadium this Tuesday for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

This event marks the official launch of Juba Stadium, which now has a 7,000-seat capacity following renovations funded by FIFA Forward 1.0 and 2.0, amounting to USD 5,150,000.

The upgraded stadium features a FIFA-certified artificial turf pitch, modern facilities, and operational offices for officials and staff. It will host national team matches (both men's and women's) and local league games.

The renovation will soon include a giant screen and floodlights, making Juba Stadium the largest and only CAF-approved stadium in South Sudan.

FIFA Forward, the world's largest sports development program, has invested 2.8 billion USD since its inception in 2016. By the end of 2026, FIFA plans to invest a total of 5 billion USD globally through this program.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The Fellowship brings young leaders to the United States for academic coursework and leadership training to create unique opportunities for Fellows and U.S. citizens to collaborate, spur economic growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa and the United States. A jobless man applied for the job of 'office sweeper' at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then, as a test, watched him cleaning the floor. "You've got the job," the HR manager said. "Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the forms to fill in." The man replied "But I don't have a computer, nor an email address." "I'm sorry," said the HR manager, "if you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And if you don't exist, you cannot have the job."

The man left with no hope at all, wondering what on earth to do as he had just ssp10 in his pocket. He decided to go to a supermarket and buy a 10Kg box of tomatoes. He then sold them door-to door. In less than two hours he succeeded in doubling his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with ssp60. The man realized that he had found a way to survive, and started to go everyday - working from early to late. Thus his money doubled or tripled everyday. In a few months he bought a van, then a lorry, then his own fleet of delivery vehicles. Five years later, the man was one of the biggest food retailers in the country.

He married and started to plan his family's future. As a starter, he decided to arrange a substantial life Insurance policy. He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the negotiations were concluded, the insurance broker asked him for his email address to which to send an electronic copy of the policy and associated documentation. The man replied, "I don't have an email address." The broker answered curiously, "You don't have an email address and yet have succeeded in building a business empire. Can you imagine just what you could have achieved if you HAD had an email address? Anyway if you don't have email, it means you don't exist."

Moral of story

Never regret the opportunity you missed, some of them make you servant forever.

The deputy minister of information, Jacob Maiju Korok has clarified that construction work at Juba River Port is ongoing.
Korok says the national minister of transport presented two challenges facing the project to the council of ministers on Friday, which include the presence of security elements within the premises and some individuals being given plots in the same area.
Korok explains that the council of ministers instructed the law enforcement elements to vacate the place but suspended further discussion on individual plots since the case is before the court.
“Already this case of the plot was actually taken as a lawsuit to the court and the Council ministers suspend discussion, not the project, suspend discussions of this plot case not to be debated since already taken to the court, cannot be actually discussed but the project is ongoing," said Deputy Minister Korok.
The US$38 million dollar project is supported by the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA).

The declaration outlines over ten commitments, including renouncing violence, recommitting to the 2017 cessation of hostilities, expanding political freedoms, and pursuing a democratic transition. They pledged ongoing dedication to the mediation efforts and called for political and financial support from the African Union, the United Nations, and the international community, while also encouraging participation from non-signatory groups not in attendance. Invitations have been extended to leaders of these groups to join the mediation.

The Governor of Warrap state H.E Kuol Muor has issued Gubernatorial orders banning all games that convince the gathering and all the Local Courts across Warrap State are suspended until September, 2024, and as well declared Friday as a public Agriculture holiday to all the civil servants across the State until September, 2024, any person that be founded loitering around from Payam or Boma during the rainy season without the pass permit from his/her chief or Boma Administrator will be arrested and taken to the government farm.
The order comes into effect from the first week of may 2024.

The National Minister of Labour, James Hoth Mai, says his ministry is working on a law to ensure that hiring of employees in the NGO and private sectors is done through a commissioned recruitment agency.
James Hoth was speaking in parliament while responding to questions raised by MPs on alleged cases of corruption and malpractices in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and companies.
The minister says the law is now with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
“We are working on a certain provision that's supposed to be taken by South Sudanese, one of it is the human resources and most of human resource departments in those companies are South Sudanese," said Minister Mai. "You might have heard that we have problems in the NGO sector that a certain tribe, if you are a human resource in that NGO, all the workers will come from your tribe. It is a complaint everywhere. Which we said we are going to reverse this one. If that one continues, but our solution we are commissioning a private employment company that will take over the employment.”
Some of the contentious issues raised include 80% requirement for employees of NGOs and private companies to be locals, work permits for foreigners, the 8 hour work days, disparities in salaries between nationals and foreign nationals and unfair dismissal of South Sudanese from private entities.

Makerere University MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program 2024/2025 for Study in Uganda (Fully Funded)

Mastercard Foundation renewed its partnership with Makerere University for the second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program spanning from 2023 to 2034. The second phase of the Program will offer 1000 Scholarships for 10 years, for both Undergraduate and Master's Academic Programmes at the Makerere University Main Campus.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program is a 10-year global initiative to educate and develop the next generation leaders, who will contribute to social and economic progress, particularly in Africa. The Scholars Program enables young people from economically disadvantaged communities to complete quality secondary and tertiary education, and make successful transitions to further education or to the workforce in their home countries.

Eligibility

The applicant must be qualifying for admission at Makerere University-Main Campus, for the Master’s Degree Programme. Therefore, all applicants should apply for admission at Makerere University and, only those Applicants that shall be admitted at Makerere University shall be considered eligible for the Scholarship Selection process.

The Applicant must have completed the Bachelor's Degree Studies in an African Country

Applications are restricted to individuals facing significant financial hardships.

Applicants must demonstrate leadership potential and a record of community service

Applicants should not be holders of any other Scholarship.

Applicants should not have registered for/completed any other master's studies.

The Applicant should not exceed 35 years of age at the time of the deadline of the Application.

Applicants under the category of Refugees and Students with Disabilities should not exceed 40 years of age at the time of the deadline of the Application.

A refugee applicant must be a recognized and registered refugee with proof (refugee attestation) attached to the application form.
