Wow…today. Finally, today. Spectacles, my new album featuring an amazing line up of extra special guests, is now available for pre-order! Choose digital or vinyl. This is the loneliest record I ever made. I started writing and demoing songs at the height of an unimagined pandemic. Shared them virtually with and . Started massaging the demos via email exchanges with Phil over months before eventually assembling an all-star cast of musicians at in late 2018 to start recording. Then….crickets. We all dispersed, still trying to figure out what a post-pandemic music industry would look like. I shopped the album to labels who expressed interest in putting it out and then…crickets. I got disheartened. I put the album on a virtual shelf that got dustier and dustier and took a much needed break from a very confusing and heavy process. And the day finally came where I decide it was time to release it and RELEASE IT. There are many people to thank for helping me arrive at this moment including for managerial support, production by and the players: and songbirds (yup, that’s right!) and plus the brilliant Black minds who offered commentary on what it means to be spectacle: Please support this project that I believe is a necessary offering to our current crazy seemingly unraveling world. I was legit in the dumps yesterday. Feeling overwhelmed and underachieved. Then saw my photo amongst some of my q***r Black icons in a clip from Lilnasx Lil Nas X: Ling Live Montero doc on where Montero is talking about q***r people making huge strides and getting painted over by history. Personally, it was a much needed moment of visibility. Thanks to Lil Nas X and Radical Media for the gracious inclusion and timely reminder. New projects (including new music) on the horizon. ♥️ (I’m in the upper center above sandwiched between Billy Wright and Frankie Knuckles, atop Tracy Chapman’s locs 🥹)
