Man Arrested following Dangerous Driving Incident

A local man has been arrested following a dangerous driving incident earlier this week.

The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of Dangerous Driving (Aiding and Abetting) by Response Team officers just before midnight last night.

His arrest followed an incident at around 00:15am on Monday 12 August, where a speeding local car failed to stop for RGP officers on Devil’s Tower Road.

The car then drove the wrong way around the Sundial Roundabout and the wrong way along Winston Churchill Avenue towards Corral Road – swerving in between oncoming traffic.

Officers called off the chase as it was too dangerous to continue.

The arrest follows the sharing of video footage of the incident, which went viral on social media.

More arrests are expected. The man has been bailed whilst an investigation continues.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dash cam footage is asked to contact the RGP on 200 72500 or at www.police.gi/report-online

“Based upon results which I have heard about so far, I feel proud of the immense resilience and manner by which our students have managed to attain some excellent academic results. It further shows that teachers have done a fantastic job to ensure our students excel and this has been possible thanks to their exemplary support along their whole educational journey at different Schooling Levels. We also acknowledge the support of so many parents to help students achieve these results and supporting family members irrespective of the results attained.”

The GSD has congratulated all students who attained their desired A Level results.

"The GSLP Liberal Government has failed to prioritise the environment by failing to still deliver the wastewater treatment plant that they promised with so much fanfare as far back as 2011. It is “incredible” that after 13 years it is still engaged in a tender process with a preferred bidder and has yet to sign a works contract for the construction of the wastewater treatment plant."

The GSD have issued a statement on the Wastewater Plant mentioned in previous GSLP/Liberal manifestos, claiming that the Government’s track record is “abysmal”.

HIGH SPEED CHASE SEES CAR TRAVEL WRONG WAY UP WINSTON CHURCHILL AVENUE

At 00:15 this morning, RGP officers were patrolling Kingsway Tunnel when a locally registered car was spotted driving towards Devil’s Tower Road in the centre of both lanes. Officers indicated for the vehicle to stop by using their lights and sirens. However, the vehicle made off at speed.
The car continued along Devil’s Tower Road at speeds estimated to be over 100kph. Officers pursued the vehicle, before it drove the wrong way around the Sundial Roundabout onto the northbound lane of Winston Churchill Avenue and travelled towards Corral Road at speed, the wrong way, swerving in-between oncoming traffic. Officers called off the chase as it was too dangerous to continue. The registration was noted and enquiries as to who was driving the car are continuing.
