Neon lights, fast cars, and a dystopian future—synthwave was built on the male fantasy of a cyberpunk dreamscape. A world of lone heroes, pixelated sunsets, and rain-soaked streets 🕶️

But the genre is evolving. Women are reshaping synthwave, infusing it with emotion, depth, and fresh perspectives beyond the retro-masculine aesthetic 💜

From cinematic ballads to electrifying anthems, these artists are redefining what synthwave can be. Are you a female composer or performer in the scene?

Before synthesizers were mainstream, Delia Derbyshire was crafting entire soundscapes from pure frequencies and tape loops. Her most famous creation? The legendary “Doctor Who” theme—the first TV theme ever made entirely with electronic music! 🚀🎛️

At the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Delia didn’t just compose—she engineered sound, pioneering techniques that shaped music production as we know it. Yet, for years, her contributions were overlooked. It's time to give her the recognition she deserves! ❤️🔥

Drop a comment if you love electronic music and share it with a chauvinistic mate that needs to get educated.

Daphne Oram (1925–2003) was a pioneering British composer and electronic musician, best known as a co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop 🎛️

A visionary in sound design, she developed the "Oramics" technique, an early form of graphical sound synthesis, using hand-drawn waveforms on film to create unique electronic music 🎶

Her innovative work laid the groundwork for modern electronic music production.
Oram’s compositions, such as "Four Aspects", showcased her experimental approach, blending technology and artistry 🌀

A tireless advocate for electronic music, her legacy continues to inspire musicians and sound designers worldwide, cementing her as a trailblazer in the field ✨

We’ve always championed human creativity, and while technology like synthesizers and samplers has shaped music, it’s the human touch that makes art resonate 🎨

However, we had to draw a line at AI music and we had to take down an album from our catalogue that was generated in SUNO.

Ironically, some of the most forward-thinking music genres—those rooted in themes of futurism, dystopia, and the merging of human and machine—are now facing an existential dilemma. Yet, we won’t throw the first stone—AI, like any tool, has potential, but it must serve creativity, not replace it 🤖

Also, AI-generated music can’t be copyrighted, meaning it never truly belongs to its creators 🚫©️

Moving forward, we’ll rigorously screen demos, rejecting any AI use unless it’s creatively justified. Thank you for your vigilance. Together, let’s celebrate the imperfect, human magic of music ✨🎤

Women’s Day isn’t just a celebration—it’s a call to action. At Aztec, we empower women every day. March 8th honors strength, resilience, and the fight for equality 💪

In 1908, 15,000 women marched in NYC for fair pay, shorter hours, and voting rights, sparking a global movement. By 1917, March 8th became the day to celebrate women’s contributions 🌟

March is Women’s History Month—a time to honor trailblazers in science, business, activism, and beyond. The fight for equality continues.

Tag an inspiring woman, share her story, and keep the conversation alive.
