The International Cricket Council (ICC) has designated former Pakistan captain Sana Mir as the ambassador for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
With 226 international appearances, including 137 as captain for the Green Shirts, Sana will closely monitor the progress of the 10 participating teams and their players throughout the two-week tournament.
The former skipper eagerly anticipates a fierce competition as teams vie for the two finalist spots in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year. The action kicks off in Abu Dhabi from April 25 to May 7.
Expressing her excitement about her ambassadorial role, Sana looks forward to witnessing competitive cricket as teams strive for their places in the main event.
“Beyond the significant qualification opportunity for two teams, the tournament will offer valuable exposure to the Associate Member teams and their players. The women’s game has witnessed a surge in competitiveness in recent years, and the 10 nations involved in the Qualifier boast numerous quality players.”
Having participated in multiple qualifying events for Pakistan as both captain and player, Sana holds fond memories, particularly from the 2008 edition of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifying Series, where she was honored with the joint Player of the Series award.
