Host privilege: HealthConnections allows me to talk with interesting and influential people about issues related to people, health, & policy. There is always something to talk about. This week, I talked with a favorite local clinician, leader, and fellow crusader, Dr. Eboni Winford of Cherokee Health Systems, on a topic of deep concern: how we treat people experiencing mental health emergencies. Dr. Winford shared the nature of the problem and offered some ideas about strategies that have been used successfully in other communities. Knoxville & Knox County has commissioned a task force to look at what can be done in our area. Let's start a community conversation and make a difference in the lives of the increasing number of people experiencing a mental health crisis. This episode is among my favorites, which says a lot after six years on the air on WUOT 91.9 FM, Knoxville. Thanks, Eboni. Well-done!
