This year, the BBC will mark the 100th anniversary of the Shipping Forecast. BBC Radio 4 began the centenary celebrations with a full day of dedicated programming on New Year's Day.

The event marked an important partnership between the Met Office, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and the BBC, charting the history of the Shipping Forecast from its pre-broadcast beginnings to the bulletins of today.

The celebration also featured a collaboration with the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, showcasing a selection of fascinating objects from their forecast-related collections, spanning from 1800 to the present day.
