๐ŸŒŸ Transforming Montrose High Street! ๐ŸŒŸ
We're flipping the script to create a more vibrant, welcoming space! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธโ˜•๏ธ๐ŸŒณ

Currently, our High Street is 80% road and only 20% pedestrian space. Our plan reduces road space, making way for bustling markets, a thriving cafรฉ culture, and inviting civic spaces, all while maintaining a busy north and south roadway, parking, and bus stops. With the widest High Street in Scotland this is more than achievable.

Key Highlights:
โœ… More space for markets, outdoor eating and drinking, and community activities
โœ… Improved pedestrian experience with wider accessible walkways and crossings
โœ… Enhanced greenery and new trees for shade and biodiversity
โœ… Busy roadways, parking, and bus stops still in place and no loss of parking

Check out the attached image to see our plan: red areas indicate roadways, while green areas represent the expanded pedestrian spaces.

ProMo have outlined plans for potential development of the former Corner House Hotel building and want to engage with the current owners about development options.

โญ๐Ÿšจ Attention Montrose Community! ๐Ÿšจโญ

ProMo is keen to breathe new life into the B-listed Corner House building, now on the buildings at risk register. ๐ŸšWe envision a vibrant boutique Aparthotel with a restaurant, bar, function rooms, and full accessibility with a new lift. The outdoor space would be transformed with covered seating and greenery, enhancing the area around Montrose Steeple.

We're eager to negotiate with the owner, ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ who manages other local businesses, but we've been unable to make contact. If anyone can assist in connecting us, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Let's work together to revitalise this historic gem. ๐ŸŒŸ

โญSPOT LIGHT: SCOTLANDS STREET OF SCULPTUREโญ

๐ŸกMontrose High Street is struggling with numerous closed shops and deteriorating buildings. The project aims to rejuvenate the area by creating Scotland's Street of Sculpture, featuring works by local sculptor William Lamb. The plan includes wider pedestrian-friendly spaces for events, markets and external seating, more parking for cars and bikes, a sculpture trail, and more greenery.

This initiative hopes to attract art tourism, boosting the local economy and revitalizing the town for residents and visitors alike. Let's bring life back to Montrose High Street and celebrate our unique heritage! ๐Ÿก

MONTROSE COUNCILLOR PREDICTS MONTROSE WILL BE UNDER WATER IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS.

Tommy Stewart, an independent councillor, is bleak about the townโ€™s future. โ€œI would give Montrose another three years maximum and I think itโ€™ll be under. The defences will breach if they donโ€™t do anything.โ€

Cllr Stewart has calculated that the rate of erosion is such that within a period of three years the town will be flooded. The councillor has been an elected local councillor since 2017 and was part of the ruling council administration between 2017 -2022. There were no flood or erosion protection measures implemented during that time.

The current Angus Council plan for short and long term coastal erosion / flood protection at Montrose Bay (due to start in Spring 2025) is to build up beach dunes at potential flood points and raise the beach level. This will be done by dumping large volumes of sand onto the beach, re-profiling the beachfront at strategic points, and using existing rock armour materials to build up rock walls from shore out to sea that will retain sand within the beach areas.

The significant cost of this project will require funding from the Scottish Government.
