Canadian, now Berlin-based, multi-instrumentalist Aidan Baker
( Nadja, Hypnodrone Ensemble etc.) opens this two hours of music with a 15-minute and 30-second long track soaked with hypnotic and magnetic experimental psych ambient kraut music that frees your brain into an uncomplicated whirlpool of sonic emotions. Aidan’s Trio Not Trio project, which started in 2022 with the collaboration of some experimental worldwide eclectic musicians, has arrived at its last chapter of 5 releases. “ Letzte “ ( Last ) apart from Aidan, sees the collaboration, as on the previous 4 episodes, of two extra musicians; German drummer Jana Sotzko, and American multi-instrumentalist Melissa Guion ( guitar/bass/electronics ). The album contains 7 music episodes of dark and at times nightmarish experimentalism. It’s not scary but spirit-lifting. Belgium experimentalist The Moondig, led by keyboardist Tom Bessemans and drummer Timo Jacob aka Timo Tomit are back with their last work for 2023, and it's about " Copper " ( atomic Nr 29 ). More improvising prog-rock jazz sound from them.

The show finishes off with 5 singles, as part of our weekly Single Corner. First ' All Kinda Girls ' ( Sponge Rec.-1977 ), first single by American punk power pop rock'n'roll band from Boston, Massachusetts, The Real Kids formed in 1972 by John Felice after he left The Modern Lovers.
Then, with a nice sweet cover ' She's A Rebel ' ( Back Door Man Rec- 1977 ), pinned by the late Gene Pitney and covered by hundreds of others, here are The Zippers. This Los Angeles-based punk/pop band was around from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Late Bob Segarini 's The Wackers, an American short-lived folk rock band formed in 1970, who released three albums and various singles, are in with their 1975 Bomp Records release single ' Captain Nemo '. Talking about the story of punk, are Venus and the Razorblades from their 1977 Bomp Records single ' Punk-A-Rama'.
This short-lived punk rock band from Los Angeles, California was formed and managed in 1976 by the legendary Kim 'Animal God Of The Street' Fowley. The last single comes from The Morlocks, a garage rock band from San Diego, California, which was formed in 1984, and still goes on. Here's for you their 1990 single on In The Red Recordings ' Under The Wheel '. Not damage done.

My London Calling - Shades Of Rock weekly Facebook posts, from the past four years up to now, have become a steady ritual that I hope will go on for a few years more. You never know what's around the corner once you get to my age....lol

Surprise, surprise!!
As mentioned in yesterday's FB post ( at the end of it ), I'll be on tonight from midnight until 1.00 a.m. - UK Time- on Rock Radio UK sitting for my dear friend/colleague Nick Giles who's taking some time off from his weekly Miscreant Machine rock show. He'll be back well-revitalised next year with his rock show.
Tonight's first episode of my new show, London Calling - Shades Of Rock - EXTRA it's a continuation of what I play on my Sunday night one. Always great new music. This EXTRA rock show will include a slot called ' The singles corner ' where every week I unearth, from my singles collection, 5 good old singles by known and also fairly obscure bands. This will also include 12" and CD singles.
To open my first episode of London Calling - Shades Of Rock- EXTRA is California's eclectic psych-acid rock ensemble The Third Mind. The band, led by guitarist Dave Alvin, features like-minded musicians such as Jesse Sykes of Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter (acoustic guitar, vocals); Victor Krummenacher of Camper Van Beethoven etc. (bass guitar); David Immerglück of Monks of Doom etc. (guitar/harmonium/mellotron); and Michael Jerome of Better Than Ezra etc. (drums/percussion). The Third Mind's new album, simply titled The Third Mind 2, is the follow-up to their first one released in 2020. The album is out now via Yep Rock Records

The show finishes off with the first episode of my singles corner slot. First is a single by 80s Boston garage rockers Two Saints aka Two Saints Boston. The band formed in the mid 80's by Joe Mazzari and Marky Mussel has released 2 studio albums, a live ' bootleg, and 3 singles. Legendary late Swell Maps's Nikki Sudden is in with 'Whisky Priest' released in 1991 on the N.Y. label Sol Records.
UK 80s short-lived rock band Tandoori Cassette, formed by Barriemore Barlow after leaving Jethro Tull in 1980, with Zal Cleminson of Nazareth, Charlie Tumahai, and Ronnie Leahy, the keyboard player with Stone the Crows are in with their only 1982 single release ' Angel Talk ' via IKA Records.

Way backwind, I'll bring the magic of Roy Rutanen’s self-titled album which has remained a best-kept secret among psych and acid-folk collectors ever since its original release in 1971 via MCA Records/ Australia. Roy is a singer-songwriter born in Putman, Connecticut, and raised in Southbridge, Massachusetts. What's inside this extremely beautiful album is psych acid blues that brings to mind the folk of early Donovan meets the blues of Tim Buckley and Shawn Phillips. More psych acid folk/blues comes from Rochdale, Lancashire, fairly obscure duo Tractor, with a track from their first self-titled album released in 1971 by the late John Peel's legendary label Dandelion.
Birmingham, West Midlands, England, U.K. underground psych prog rockers Heronimus Fin are in " Riding The Great Fantastic ". The album was released in 1998 via Birmingham's collective label Garden Records. The band is still well active. Their 2001
" Bloodguilt "live album is now reissued via Pqr Disques Plusqueréel. I have my copy sent that year by Garden Records and will play live tracks on next week's show.
Otwoch, Warsaw, Poland, psych alt rockers Oranżada are in with their exciting new single ' Idź Do Chmury ' ( Go To The Cloud ). Their new album " Salto " is released in 2024 via Audio Cave.
