Steeped in stories about warring mountains, an inland sea that stretched to Idaho, earthquakes, and white hot rocks hurtling through the air, the Bridge of the Gods has moved straight out legend and into the modern world.

Interesting statistic of the day: So far this year, 7,397 people have crossed the Bridge of the Gods on foot!

The Bridge of the Gods is the only pedestrian crossing of the Columbia River between the I-205 Glen Jackson Bridge in Portland and The Dalles Bridge. But there is no sidewalk or pedestrian lane on the Bridge of the Gods, so it's very important that motorists share the road and stay under the 15MPH speed limit. Pedestrians should always walk against the flow of traffic and stay as close as possible to the side rails.

The Port will be looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety on the bridge as part of a series of studies funded by the Oregon state legislature in the coming months, along with seismic resiliency and other preservation and safety improvements.

First Nations lore says that long ago, the Bridge of the Gods, a natural rock bridge, spanned the Columbia River. Each bank was home to a brother: Pahto on the north side, and Wy’East on the south. In a story as old as time, the brothers fought over the attentions of a fair maiden named Loowit; th...

On March 7th, Oregon lawmakers secured $6 million for crucial engineering studies to bolster the historic Bridge of the Gods, a vital passage for the Pacific Crest Trail linking Oregon and Washington. This pivotal step aims to enhance seismic resilience and safety for all travelers. 🌲 Exciting progress is underway to protect hikers, cyclists, and equestrians crossing this iconic, nearly 100-year-old bridge!
You can visit our blog on the PCTA website to read more about the first funding approval and what lies ahead for increasing access to state and federal lands for recreation on both sides of the river.

On a recent winter day, “Herman the Sturgeon” swam in a pond with his fish friends. Herman is 10 feet long and weighs nearly 500 pounds. The white sturgeon lives at Bonneville Hatchery near Cascade Locks, Oregon. Many locals consider Herman to be the most popular fish in Oregon.

Rumors lingered about Lindbergh flying under the Bridge of the Gods for years. When Lindbergh toured the Pacific Northwest, he flew down the Columbia River Gorge toward the bridge.

Vancouverites felt slighted in September 1927 when Charles Lindbergh landed across the Columbia River in Portland and not at Pearson Field, the site of many early aviation firsts. Still, three stories
