I’m watching the news this morning and a story comes on about switched embryos. During the IVF procedure, the wrong embryo was implanted in the wrong mother. They find out four months into their mothering. “Can you imagine,” Gayle King says, “All that kicking and it wasn’t even yours.”
But for the parents, it’s like a death. “You go into mourning,” says the father of one of the babies. The mother wipes tears from her eyes, thinking about the baby she had to give up. That baby was her child.
