BBC: Faces and voices experiment I am William Rudling and I am a finalist in So You Want to Be a Scientist on BBC Radio 4 Just close your eyes and listen, you'll see what I mean!

I'm a professional artist who is always looking at people's faces, ie caricature events or portraits. Over the years I've noticed people's faces with similar facial features will have a matching intonation in the sound of their voice. Does this mean that the bone structure of our skull and muscle tissue influence our vocal chords in the same way as the shape of a musical instrument partly determi

nes its sound? For instance, Dame Judi Dench and Samantha Bond have similar bone structures and facial features, and I think their voices sound very similar too. Take part in the experiment here: http://facesandvoices.leeds.ac.uk
