KABOBfest was started in 2004 as a response to the onslaught of citizen paranoia, media irresponsibility and subsequent misrepresentation of Arab and Muslim Americans following the events of September 11th, 2001 in the United States. There was a need for a blog that countered the emerging representations of these two particular groups and it was dire that these countering perspectives came from th
e groups in question themselves. Over time the blog has developed into a platform for young activist writers, with questionable judgment and wit, engaging with critical ideas and events affecting the Global South. We cover issues ranging from your local protest gatherings to the commercialization whitewashed beauty to Gulf migrant slav-err labor to why people who support the two-state solution just aren't [long-term] relationship material. Needless to say, the blog has never shied away from controversy and skewering the deserved.
