U009 Ready to Wear ep.4 – luxxuryproblems / spoken world

luxxury problems contributes the third episode of the Ready-to-Wear season.
Manuel Sékou, who operates under the moniker luxxuryproblems is an audio/visual artist whose work is structured through assembling, archiving and confronting fragments of projection and reality.

On this show, he crunched an extraction of current interests in styles of spoken word(s), electroacoustic fragments as well as grounding beat-driven patterns. Edited, stretched and twisted interplays are serving as an unsorted yet cut-up diary of moods. It translates a dialogue of focus and distraction within a season of intense traffic.

The duo aairs (risolee & Seconde Aride) signs the second episode of our Ready-to-Wear series. It interweaves two points of departure.

The first of these is The Detroit Escalator Company’s track “Gathering Memory”, which begins with an in-situ recording of a directional instruction given to a woman who seems to have lost her way in Detroit.

The second is the opening of “Mammame” by Jean-Claude Gallota and Serge Houpin, a modern ballet that, like an alternative to a Samuel Beckett drama, begins with the fall of a man.

From one to the other, these 58 minutes of sound allow us to follow the dance through a permanent, ephemeral veil of data and images. One movement calls for another, disappearing then reappearing transformed.

ESITU Records reminds us of Nice Guise Collective and "a chaotic mass without any hierarchy, akin to an aggregate in the orbit of the post-punk movement and remnants of the Dada avant-garde" just three months after Candid shots. Phew! It justifies the hype in about two seconds and thus concludes their first release of studio sessions, concert recordings, and sonic residues.
