Having become very attached to Tri-City Raceway over the few years since its return, it's quite humbling to see the facility transform into what it did last weekend for the long-awaited return of the NASCAR ARCA Menards Series to West Richland.
Eric and the crew executed with machine-like efficiency all weekend, leading to a P1 time in Friday practice. Despite the pace, the weekend unraveled mere laps into the race the following day due to a mechanical failure.
With a tire pointing inches in the wrong direction, and a steering wheel turned nearly a full rotation just to keep the car straight, Eric wheeled the #19 to the halfway break as intact as possible, and made do until, through a cloud of smoke, he took the checkered flag.
I continue to be impressed with Eric's poise under pressure and under the weight of adversity, humbled by the unwavering support he receives from his family, and profoundly thankful for their hospitality at these events, ones I could only dream of participating in just a few years ago.

I'm so thrilled to announce the release of BEYOND THE EDGE II: Sonoma Raceway.
Releasing tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10th on Eric Johnson Jr.'s YouTube channel, link forthcoming, this is the crown jewel of this last year and a half's worth of content creation, with all its learning, experimenting, failing, and succeeding. I've poured my absolute heart and soul into this video, a 33 minute short film about a special family with a unique dream.
All at once thought provoking, heart wrenching, thrilling, and ultimately sentimental, this piece isn't just for race fans. This is for anyone who likes to root for the little guy, the up-and-comer, the underdog.

I grew up watching races at Sonoma Raceway with my folks, way back in the day when it was called Sears Point and, subsequently, Infineon Raceway. The iconic S-curves leading into the final hairpin and the rising and falling hills after the start finish line are ingrained in my memory.
Thursday evening, I walked with Eric and his brother Andrew around the S-curve campground, handing out signed hero cards and meeting fans, backdropped by all those iconic corners, all at once in view. I was all at once humbled, anxious, and deeply grateful.
That feeling was only amplified the following day, wherein after credentialing, we rounded the grandstands, red wristband equipped, into pit lane. I was just a wall away from that hairpin, and flanked on the other side by massive grandstands bearing the facility's name and logo.
That evening, badly burned by the northern California sun, and exhausted from traversing the 2.5 mile track to film, I only felt deeply humbled at what it took the Eric Jr Racing family to get me there. Over these five days, the unquestioning, unflinching generosity and selflessness of Eric's parents, Eric Sr. and Carie, almost overwhelmed me, some dude they had, of yet, only met once during the production of BEYOND THE EDGE.
I tried, but I don't believe I could sufficiently express my gratitude, not only to them, but to Eric Jr., his grandfather Jack, sister Hailey and her husband Anthony, brother Andrew, girlfriend Dolores, and the entire crew for putting up with the stranger with a camera.
Now, production begins. I simply cannot wait for you all to experience this with me when it releases.

SO stoked to announce that we'll be traveling with Eric Jr Racing to Sonoma Raceway this weekend to produce a new video with the Johnson crew at their ARCA Menards Series race with Bill McAnally Racing. I grew up watching races there on TV, back when it was called Sears Point Raceway and Infineon Raceway. This is absolutely surreal. Missed last week's Lap of the Week, so I had to make this one a banger. Take a lap with me around Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in the Mercedes W13 Formula1 machine. Full throttle through the iconic Eau Rouge and Raidillon S curves, downhill from the Bruxelles hairpin into a high-speed dash for the final chicane.
The GTP lap at Long Beach was a cakewalk comparatively, this thing is so on edge and requires such precision. Took me more laps than I care to admit to put down a lap that didn't involve a barrier.

This week's iRacing Lap of the Week comes from the narrow streets of Long Beach, California, home of the IMSA Grand Prix of Long Beach. Tried to nail it in one of my weakest road cars, the Cadillac V-Series.R GTP. Definitely a few seconds to pry out of it with some more practice. Onboard begins at 1:20.
