As Malawi still mourn the death of Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and 9 others who died in a plane crash in Chikangawa Forest, the family of late Captain Flora Selemani Ngwirinji has slated June 13, 2024 will be laid to rest.

Harneck and Stephen Mataka who are Uncle's to the late Ngwirinji said they were shocked with the news since late Flora was their pillar.

Ngwirinji who was the Captain of the Dornier Plane was the first Malawi female pilot since 2015.

Late Ngwirinji hails from Kasalika Village, Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo, survived with a husband and one child.

MALAWI'S FLAGS FLY AT HALF-MAST as VP and 8 OTHERS CONFIRMED DEAD.

President Lazarus Chakwera has announced the death of his deputy, Saulos Chilima and nine others in a plane crash in Chikangawa Forest in Mzuzu.

The plane carrying the deceased failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02, yesterday, and on its return to Lilongwe, crashed in the thick forest.

In a televised address, Chakwera said the plane is completely destroyed and all passengers on board were killed on impact.

"It is such an honor to have had such a wonderful gentleman. Chakwera said in his address.

In the Bombo area, two teams are operating with two drones to aid in the search efforts. These drones are provided by the Malawi University of Science and Technology.

MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri has stated that the missing plane remains unlocated, and efforts to find it are still in progress.

He mentioned that over 200 soldiers are actively involved in the search operation, alongside police officers, forestry officials, and additional personnel.

General Phiri noted that the challenging terrain is complicating the search for the aircraft.

He delivered this update during a press briefing that is currently in session.

Yesterday President Lazarus Chakwera said his office has directed continued search for the plane that carried Vice President Saulos Chilima.

Chakwera has said this is an address which came slightly around ten hours after the plane came off the radar.

He dismissed reports of believed lack of resources to trace the plane.

He says he has engaged the foreign community to support in the exercise and that government is commiting all resources at hand.
