R.I.P Paddy

We lost a legend today - very sad to hear the news that Sunshine 106.8 broadcaster and much loved musician Paddy Cole has passed away. Paddy has been with Sunshine 106.8 since the beginning in 2001 and broadcast his own show every Sunday morning on Sunshine 106.8 since 2004.

Paddy's son Pat confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, he said: "The music world mourns the loss of the legendary Paddy Cole, a beloved entertainer who brought joy to thousands with his vibrant personality and infectious music.

"From the Capitol Showband to his own Superstars, Paddy Cole's saxophone, clarinet, and vocals filled dance halls and concert stages with his signature blend of jazz, Dixieland, and showband sounds. His music transcended generations, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

"On behalf of his family, we express our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Paddy’s legacy will live on through the music he created and the joy he shared with the world.

"Rest in peace, Paddy Cole."

From all your colleagues and friends in Sunshine 106.8 thanks for the music and the memories.

Status Red warnings for high winds during Storm Éowyn have been extended to 22 counties.

The warning for Cork, Kerry and Limerick is in effect from 2am to 10am on Friday.

The warning for Clare and Galway is in place from 3am until noon on Friday. For Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, red status last from 4am until midday.

Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon and Tipperary are also under a red weather warning for wind from 6am until midday.

From 6am until 3pm, the red weather warning for wind is valid for Co Donegal.
