How our story telling technique helped a leading Australian health and life insurance organisation expand their insurance offering into the Mental Health sector. 💡➡️ THE BRIEF: AIA Vitality Insurance contacted us to create an animation that was able to educate AIA's customers on mental health and encourage them to take steps earlier to help them. We understood that our animation film also needed to work as an effective device for AIA Australia to use internally for recruitment, training and mental health awareness among their teams.
➡️ THE PROJECT: After thoughtful consideration and research, we concluded that focusing on the recent drought in NSW was an ideal way to bring a regional focus to AIA's mental health drive. With men’s Mental Health not having a large prominence in society at that time it was agreed we would work with “Pete” from Manilla NSW and concentrate on his Mental Health journey. Using the unique Woven Threads methodology “Pete” shared his incredible story of anxiety and depression on the land to great effect.
➡️ THE OUTCOME: The animated film was a complete success for all, including “Pete the Farmer”, who was thrilled at the prospect of helping others through his relatable story. AIA used the film both internally and publicly as part of their social responsibility platform to achieve its original aims. The animated film is also a part of a series that is available on ClickView in the primary, secondary and tertiary categories. The film 'Pete' is highly relevant for tertiary students in developing empathy and understanding.
🙏 Through witnessing Pete's story, students, AIA employees and AIA's customers were able to broaden their perspective on mental health.

Our animated Film ‘Emma’ touches on topics including trauma, adoption, domestic violence, disordered eating, and PTSD. 🎞️ Our Series 2 is an animated series of short films that explore stories on mental health and the struggles that many people go through. 🧑🏫 The film ‘Emma’ is currently being viewed by students throughout Australian schools and we have two resources available for teachers to utilise within the classroom. WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT? 📽️ Emma was adopted at six weeks old; she always knew this. Emma spent her first five weeks of life in care and was never held by her birth mother. When Emma was three her family adopted another baby girl, as kids they were inseparable but as they grew older they started to see the world differently. Emma lacked a sense of self and developed disordered eating as a way of coping with that and the world around her. Emma shares how she navigated the emptiness she felt, her depression, abusive relationships and trauma. Emma is now a Peer Worker, Peer supervisor and Trainer in mental health.
