20 years.
Despite watching countless hours of news reports, many people have never heard the story of the national 9/11 flag. The flag that once flew above Ground Zero was removed from 90 West Street after becoming tattered and torn. It didn't see the light of day again for six years. When it was brought out of storage, it began a journey across America, to each state, to be sewn back together by the people who make America a great nation: firefighters, soldiers, community activists, relatives of 9/11 victims, survivors of other tragedies. After 10 years on the road, countless hours of restoration, and 30,000 stitches, the flag returned home. The flag is now on display at the national 9/11 museum, where it lives as a symbol of unity, of hope, of resilience.
The people in the video were all part of the flag's restoration tour: Maria Hood, principal of an elementary school who donated her school's flag that flew the day of Fort Hood tragedy; Wendy Hauser and Carolyn Deters, two of the coordinators of the restoration tour; and Elsie Rosado, mother of a 9/11 victim. Thousands of others participated in the restoration.
These are just a few voices from the flag. #wewillnotforget

HAPPY EARTH DAY!
Take some time to appreciate the beauty of the earth today! What do you see? What do you love? How will you take care of it?
"One wide, sweeping sky. Two honeybees. Three bunnies in a nest. Four redwood trees..."
"Ten scraps of litter? Toss them in the trash. Nine empty bottles? Turn them is for cash..."
Eileen Spinelli's ONE EARTH is a fun book to help little learners explore reasons to love the planet and practical ways to take care of it. Have you read it yet?
