Five O'Clock World was written by Allen Reynolds and recorded in 1965 by The Vogues. In 1966 it reached #1 in the Canadian Billboard Charts and #4 in the US.
My brother John and I always loved the record and decided to pay homage to it and record a version for my third CD release (Dog Dreams).
It was recorded in John's home studio in Bayside Queens. I came to NY with a guitar in hand. John had already laid down all of the tracks for the music and the background vocals by the time I had arrived (more reasons to love John). We spent the better part of an afternoon cutting my vocal and putting on guitar tracks. I would venture to say we spent the rest of the evening drinking beer and making each other laugh. It was a fabulous time.
In Oct 2020 I got a letter from a woman named Noelle Serper who has a podcast called Brainwaves, "which is an intuitive of one of the largest mental health non-profits, One Mind." Its goal is to "provide hope and help to to folks who are struggling with their mental health during the pandemic."
She told me she was a fan of the recording John and I made so many years ago and asked if I could perform and be a guest on her show (Earlyish December 2020).
This is where the video and all of the people who helped out come in. I asked my friend and Berkley, MI homie Gary Sussman if he would participate. Gary is the guy with the Gretsch guitar and no head (there's a joke in there somewhere). I'd like to, once again, thank John and Gary for their participation and enthusiasm. They always make things better.
I put out a request on Facebook for people to send me a picture of themselves wearing a mask. I was REALLY surprised how many people responded. I also took some pictures of people at work (day gig).
