Hilarious actor, filmmaker, and podcaster Paul Scheer joins us on MBB this week to break down what it means to speak your truth even if it betrays the narratives of others, finding your own agency after being a “passive participant” in your own life, his ADHD diagnosis later in life, and the benefits of surrounding yourself with people who challenge you creatively!

Paul was able to discuss his abusive childhood with impressive objectivity, sharing how his tumultuous upbringing allowed him to be a better husband and father himself, how he was able to move forward without holding on to anger, and the benefits of opening up about his trauma in order to connect with others.

He also speaks to the tendency to build up the idea in our heads that others are going to have negative thoughts/opinions about what we’re doing, when the reality is they’re not thinking about us as much as we are of them.

Tune in to hear a side of Paul Scheer you’ve likely never heard before!

The impeccably-styled Brett Gelman (Stranger Things, Fleabag) joins us in person this week!

From his early battles with OCD to overcoming his tendencies toward enmeshment he developed in early childhood with his mom, we really appreciated Brett’s vulnerability as he opened up about feeling different while growing up, his early experiences with drug use, and why questioning his s*xuality as a kid led him to have a breakdown.

The way he articulated the importance of creating space for men to challenge toxic masculinity and the importance of putting a little bit of yourself into everything you do was also super inspiring!

We dive deep into the soul-stirring journey of@Matisyahu on this week!

Matisyahu opens up about the deal he made with God where he dedicated his life to his faith and music career, and how he began pairing psychedelics with spirituality and music at an early age.

Obviously my favorite part of the interview was hearing him recount dropping out of high school to become a Dead Head and follow Phish on tour 🤘, but it was also fascinating to hear Matis discuss his time in wilderness therapy, his period of sobriety, why he believes music has the power to unite us all, and why he identifies as “the last hippie.”

He also explains his move toward becoming very religious in his Jewish faith, from growing an extremely recognizable beard and the significance of him eventually shaving it off, to the intersectionality between reggae and Judaism, and the underground healer who saved his life.

PLUS we attempt to answer the difficult question: Does God feel pestered by humanity?

IT’S MBB’S 200TH EPISODE!!! And I can’t think of a better way to ring it in than with the great , someone who has been on our list for a long while - it was a privilege to finally sit down and chat all things meditation!

From his adrenaline addiction from his days reporting on the front lines of Iraq to self-medicating his depression with co***ne that led to a very public panic attack on live TV, it was fascinating to hear him detail the journey that brought him to meditation.

Are you one of the “terminally unique” individuals who thinks they can’t meditate? Maybe you just haven’t found the method that works for you!

Dan breaks down different forms of meditation, including those that enhance concentration and gratitude and how a lovingkindness meditation practice can reshape your day-to-day life. This episode will help you learn how meditation can give you practical skills to happiness, help you detach from your narrative through metacognition, and create a buffer between stimulus and reaction.

I’m very proud of Mayim for opening up with Dan and sharing her personal struggles with meditation - I’ll bet the practical tips Dan recommended to help her with her practice could also be the motivation you need to begin your own journey!

TUNE IN to help us celebrate 200 episodes of MBB with Dan Harris!

and I have always been fans of his comedy, but who knew he also has sage advice in the emotional wellness department??

In addition to Tom making us laugh nonstop, it was really eye-opening to hear him talk about the cathartic experience comedy can have on loneliness and how he channels his artist sensitivity into humor; allowing ourselves to go there and feel deep emotion is something we all can learn and benefit from.

Also shoutout to for the amazing sourdough bread he made us - a party in my mouth!!! 🥖

Do you notice moments of synchronicity? Have they brought you opportunities for change? Or tested your resolve?

What do you think when moments of synchronicity happen in your life?

Being aware of the times when we’re being asked to embody a new way of being and break patterns from our past can be the difference between stepping forward in our lives and circling back to repeat patterns that no longer serve us.

Also, who spotted the light orb?

What’s going right today?

We’re predisposed to identify what’s going wrong. It’s part of our survival instincts.

But, identifying what’s going right, no matter how small, and having gratitude for it, has huge impact on our mental and physical health.

It’s a practice. It takes repetition.

And, it will truly change the lenses we see the world through.

It will build new neural pathways and change how we think and feel.

So let’s practice.

What’s going right?

For me, the sun came up again today. I might have taken that for granted, but it’s truly a miracle. I have another chance to learn, explore, and love.
