IMPAIRED
Compromise comes with its own set of comforting spirits and peace.
In leaning upon God's mercy, the repetition of the sinful deed is superintended by these spirits, who (disguising themselves as the Holy Spirit) foster one's reliance upon a type of mercy that allows room for procrastination of repentance (total abandoning of sin) and murmuring.
Like an army invading a country, their interest isn't in the little villages they overrun, but in the capital city and the seat of power.
Little concern have they that you can perform a certain tiny sin, that is their logistics outpost as they advance to capture your whole soul, their only interest is on how to have you perform every other sin that your conscience still inhibits.
Like a rat slowly gnawing on the toe of a sleeping man, blowing on the wound because he probably could awaken, thus sin infiltrates, keeping the status quo intact and subjective disciplines undisturbed.
And when the time is right for the harvest, the city is taken without a fight, the foot is lost without discomfort, the virgin finds the oil of her lamp is spent, but the bridegroom has arrived (Matthew 25:1-13).
