GOLD CROSS MEDAL

For gallantry in action during an encounter between the elements of the 40th Infantry (Magiting) Battalion, 6th Infantry Division, Philippine Army against heavily armed Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F) rebels on or about 030600 May 2000 at Brgy Gli-Gli, Pikit, Cotabato during the implementation of Operation "DOMINANCE" of 6ID, PA. The operating operating troops engaged an estimated 200 heavily armed M**F rebels on or about 030600 May 2000. As the intense firefight underway, five M**F fighters were killed and one (1) M16 rifle was recovered. After about four (4) hours and 15 minutes of intense engagement, the troops were able to clear the area. The enemy scampered in disarray and withdrew towards towards southwest direction bringing along with them 14 killed and 17 wounded. The troops were able to recover one (1) M16 rifle and one (1) caliber 45 pistol and the ground previously occupied by the M**F fighters. By these achievements, the troops earned distinct credit not only for themeselves but for the Philippine Army as well and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

For the meritorius and heroic action as members of a special platoon, RSAF Battalion that figured in an encounter with heavily armed New People's Army rebels at
Sitio Bariis, Barangay San Jose, Tinambak Camarines Sur on or about 090630 February 1989. Second Lieutenant Imperial led one section of the 5th RSAF battalion to track down a group of heavily armed rebels previously sighted at said barangay. In a ranger-type movement, they were able to pe*****te enemy sanctuary. Seeing the rebels having a morning drill formation, the above-mentioned enlisted personnel formed an L-type battle formation and delivered deadly volume of fire which send the rebels scamperring in confusion. Heave exchange of gunfires ensued for about an hour.
Avoding total annhilation, the enemy withdrew bringing with them their casualties. After the lull, as the troopers were about to search the encounter scene, and unknown to them, the enemy were able to regroup in such larger size and took advantage position on three well fortified entrencies overlooking the government troopers. The enemy then harassed the troopers with heavy volume of fires from different high value weapons. The troopers in utter disregard of safety gallantly hold the ground, but due to the superiority of theie enemy, half of their team was overrun. Although wounded, they were able to capture six NPA trainees and managed to get out and escaped the enemy's onslaught. By the said heroic feat, the troopers brought honors and credit not only for themselves but also to the Armed Forces of the Philipines.
