In a span of just four months, 2024 in film has been a year
that just keeps giving—a gala year at the multiplex. So far, we’ve been spoiled rotten, with Denis Villeneuve delivering a long-awaited Dune sequel, with the achingly jilted All of Us Strangers, and Dev Patel’s eye-wateringly violent debut Monkey Man. But there’s still a lot to be excited about from iconic action franchises to blockbuster superhero return to animated treats and more.

What singer-songwriter Tejas offers you is an array of different musical textures. He has one solid foot in the pop space and the other probably jumping in an out of rock, electronica, synthwave and Indian classical music. He is one of my favourite pop voices coming from India right now. You might recognize his voice as Archies in Netflix’s The Archies and his last album was also highly-rated with his signature medley of rock, funk, R&B, soul and electronica and won him plenty of accolades and fans. But in a bold move, he departs from that for his new EP, Museum. Listen to his new sounds that finds inspiration in Indian folk aesthetic mixed with his own evolved brand of progressive English pop music. More on Digital Platform.

A writer first and now director, Varun Grover is very unassuming by nature. He is modest yet self-assured of his craft. And rightly so with the narratives — like Masaan and Sacred Games, among others — he has rolled out in the past. But after years of creating characters in isolation, Varun has finally stepped out of the writer’s room to make his debut film, All India Rank.
Set in the late 1990s, All India Rank follows a17-year-old boy who comes from a small town and is sent away to study for the entrance examination of the most competitive engineering college (IIT) of India. The films sounds very earnest by the way Varun explain it to us. More so because it comes from a personal space—Varun studied at the same institution before he surrendered to the world of words. In a conversation with Platform he takes us through the making of the film. Read on Digital Platform (bio).

Nature Morte presents Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade’s first solo exhibition titled “Matter Moments” in India. Known for her distinctive artistic language involving reflection, repetition, and the deconstruction and reconstruction of everyday objects, Kwade uses natural materials to explore our reality’s essence and examine social structures. She delves into the intricate pursuit of knowledge, unraveling the paradoxes that while we relentlessly seek it, we are often eluded by it. Link in bio.
