Israelis flooded the streets of Tel Aviv in protest Tuesday, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
Citing a crisis of trust regarding the management of Israel’s ongoing military operations, Gallant was replaced by foreign minister Israel Katz.
“Tonight is a spontaneous outburst of rage, because we have had enough,” declared Zahir Shahar Mor, a family member of one of the hostages, who joined protesters speaking out against the firing. Other protesters said they believed the government had failed them.
Gallant and Netanyahu, both in the right-wing Likud party, have clashed for months over the objectives of Israel’s 13-month old war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
