About a year ago, one of our Editors spoke with Oskar Odiakosa about this initiative when they were just getting started. It has been so incredible to witness what Oskar and Black in The Ballroom have impressively acomplished since then. We encourage everyone involved in ballroom to support this wonderful organization and their mission in working towards a more diverse and inclusive dance floor.

Black in the Ballroom’ aims to eliminate financial and cultural barriers and inspire people of Black origin to take up Ballroom dancing.

During this year's Dance For Pride on June 23, Waltz Tango Foxtrot hosted a raffle at the Friday Night Fever x Dance for Pride social, benefitting the Black Trans Travel Fund.
Congratulations to all winners of our raffle!! This year’s raffle included lessons, group classes, and even a custom painting by artist B Li ().

Editor Carly Mattox organized WTF's annual Dance For Pride Event at Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine Dance Studio NYC this year from June 19-23. In this article, Mattox goes into detail about her motivations in hosting the event:
"The mission of Dance for Pride has, and always will be, the creation of space within the ballroom dance community where q***r, trans, and gender non-conforming identities are accepted; where the barriers between leader and follower are allowed to dissipate and dissolve; where partner dancing can progress into something intimate and artistic, beyond its roots in traditionalism. "

When I ask myself why I continue to host Dance for Pride, I am reminded of the work of those who came before us.
