A 1932 American Bantam that was used for ferry service over the Pudding River in Oregon. The operator removed the tires and placed rubber bands on the rims for traction. Three cables were strung, two for the wheels and the third attached through the top of the car for stability. It was said that one gallon of gas was enough for 1500 trips across the 120 foot span.

Bertha Benz
On the morning of August 5, 1888, Bertha Benz and her two oldest sons quietly left their house and unknowingly changed the world forever.
While Bertha’s husband Carl lay asleep, she left a note on the kitchen table informing him that they were leaving to visit her mother in Pforzheim, Germany, some 60 miles away.
The trio then entered Carl’s workshop and pushed one of his Benz Patent - Motorwagens down the road so that Carl would not be awakened when Bertha brought its single-cylinder engine to life, embarking on what would be the first long-distance journey ever taken by automobile.

They met in 1895 when Helen Keller was only 14, and Mark Twain was 60. Despite the age gap, the two struck a surprising friendship. In his autobiography, Twain recalled: “Without touching anything, and without seeing anything, obviously, and without hearing anything, she seemed to quite well recognize the character of her surroundings.”

Keller was also instantly at ease when she met Twain. “The instant I clasped his hand in mine, I knew that he was my friend,” Keller said.

Twain helped Keller get into Radcliffe College, which has since been integrated into Harvard University. She became the first deaf and blind person in the U.S. to earn a college degree.

The two continued to write to each other, and when Twain’s wife Olivia died in 1904, Keller wrote to comfort him. It wasn’t all sentimental, as both were known to tease each other via correspondence

You can't park there mate! This F6F Hellcat entered a low altitude spin just before the ramp of this aircraft carrier, USS Charger, in August 1943. The Hellcat hit the rear of the deck and fell down onto the stern of the ship. Somehow, the pilot survived!
