Today, 3105 pensioners paid by the Government of Saint Lucia will receive a one time payment of $600 along with their monthly pensions. A total of $1.863 million will be directly pumped into the local economy through this relief effort. Last year, a one time payment of $500 was also paid.

We have begun discussions on increasing the monthly pensions to our eligible citizens, following a 4.2% increase to all pensioners under the National Insurance Company.

This administration will continue to provide relief to our citizens as we grapple with imported inflation and other external shocks affecting our people.

Castries, Saint Lucia- The Government of Saint Lucia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Robert Innocent to the crucial position of Special Prosecutor.

With nearly three decades of extensive judicial experience, Mr. Innocent has served diligently in the Office of the Director of Public
Prosecution, the Magistracy, and in private practice.

This appointment underscores the Government's unwavering commitment to addressing cases of misconduct and combating various forms of corruption by persons holding public office. Mr. Innocent's wealth of experience positions him as a dedicated and capable leader in the pursuit of justice.

Mr. Innocent’s appointment marks a significant step forward in the Government's ongoing efforts to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity.

The Government of Saint Lucia firmly believes that this appointment will strengthen the mechanisms in place to investigate and prosecute instances of corruption, sending a clear message that misconduct by public officials will not be tolerated.

About Mr. Robert Innocent:

Experience: Nearly 30 years in various judicial roles.

It's interesting that some of the vocal opponents of the new health and safety levy are the same folks who planned to enact a similar policy not too long ago. However, with an election looming, they abandoned the idea for fear of losing votes. It seems political self-interest trumped improving public wellbeing back then. But now that a party has demonstrated the courage to prioritize healthcare over expediency, the levy is suddenly the worst idea ever? The selective outrage is disingenuous, shortsighted, and unprincipled. While reasonable people can disagree on policy, such bald-faced hypocrisy does our democracy no favors.
