For many neurodivergent students, school is the hardest part of their life.

For some, school is a traumatic experience filled with too much noise, too little interest, and not enough people who “get them.”

So why is this so hard?

It’s hard because we are trying to teach an increasingly neurodiverse generation of learners within a standardized system of expectations.

What we really need is a system that flexes with the neurodiverse needs of our children.

But systems take time to change. Why?

Because we change systems by changing mindsets.

The good news here is that we actually don’t have to wait for the “system” to change, because we are the system.

Keep reading this week’s featured blog at the link below or comment “why” and I will DM you the link directly!

ADHD, as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), exhibits three primary characteristics:

1. Inattentive: Children with ADHD may struggle to pay attention to details in class, have difficulty organizing their thoughts for assignments, and find it challenging to complete tasks effectively.
2. Hyperactive-Impulsive: These children display frequent movements, excessive talking, and impulsive behavior.
3. Combined: Some children experience both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.

Can you recall when you or someone you know personally encountered or observed these ADHD characteristics during your school years? How were they addressed in the educational environment? Share your thoughts! Your experiences and insights are valuable to us.
