Thank you everyone for joining us tonight.

We had a great time starting the stream at the King Kamehameha Statue then walking past Kawaiahaʻo Church and the Hawaiian Mission Houses over to the Honolulu Night Market in Kaka’ako.

I hope you had fun with us at SALT and the Pasifika Makeke (Pacific Market) in the Barn. Then over to the Village where we had a few drinks and chatted. Then got some amazing chocolate before walking ALL the way back to Waikiki.

Lots of people were asking about the INCREDIBLE performers and they were part of the Festival of Pacific Arts or FEST PAC. Many of those performers were the ones performing over the past week on the other livestreams.

Also Fest PAC is happening at the same time!

I know everyone has been watching the live streams!

The Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC) is the world’s largest celebration of indigenous Pacific Islanders. The South Pacific Commission (now The Pacific Community - SPC) launched this dynamic showcase of arts and culture in 1972 to halt the erosion of traditional practices through ongoing cultural exchange.

The 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture, will convene in Hawaiʻi, 6–16 June 2024. “Ho‘oulu Lāhui: Regenerating Oceania” will serve as the theme of FestPAC Hawaiʻi 2024, honoring the traditions that FestPAC exists to perpetuate with an eye toward the future.

from Sunday after I flew in I went to watch the sunset at one of my favorite spots.

Those who watch the Friday night live streams knows this spot is where we stream the fireworks from.

Also my friend from Seattle flew in an hour after me so we went down to the dock to hangout and catch up.

Heads up: please avoid hiking this weekend and if you go to the beach please talk to the lifeguard first to find out about any warnings on brown water advisories. If there is brown water advisories stay out not only because the water is dirty but that is also when sharks come into shallower water to see if any animal carcasses wash down from the mountain and they will feed on it. If the water is murky don’t go in.

However keep your eyes to the sky for beautiful rainbows! Also keep your eyes to the mountains especially the Koolau Mountains in you are in Windward Oahu (Kailua and Kane’ohe) for beautiful gorgeous waterfalls.

National Weather Service advisory:

ACTIVE WEATHER EXPECTED BY THE WEEKEND WITH THE RISK OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS AND POSSIBLY FLASH FLOODING...

An unusually strong upper level disturbance is expected to move into the area Thursday night through Saturday, bringing the possibility of very active weather to portions of the Aloha State. The latest guidance indicates an increasing potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, which could produce damaging winds and large hail, as well as the possibility for localized intense rainfall and flash flooding.

The details of this event, including timing, locations most at risk, and intensity, are still uncertain. Listen for later statements, as well as possible watches and warnings, as this event becomes more clear

Tuesday night I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer and Brant who flew in all the way from Vancouver Island. We had a few pupus (appetizers) and drinks at Sports Box in the International Marketplace in Waikiki!

It was soo much fun hearing about their 2 week vacation and chatting about life. Happy One Year Anniversary! Can’t wait till you return to Hawai’i! Thank you for taking a few hours out of your vacation to hang out with me!

They also gave me a super cute magnet from Vancouver island! I was so so excited to go home and add it to my fridge collection of magnets from around the world!

A day in the life of Shasta. When I’m not eating out and streaming on Going to Hawai’i, volunteering, or at work. I am often cooking. Would you be interested in watching cooking segments where I show you how I cook some local dishes on youtube? Let me know in the comments!

Had so much fun making a homemade sushi bento last night and watching Your Name by Makoto Shinkai.

I really enjoyed how they incorporated Kumihimo into the theme of the film. Kumihimo which the Japanese art of braiding. Those who know me might remember I took a traditional Kumihimo class from Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai’i back in the day and I still have some of my stuff I made in that class.

In the film they used it to represent the braiding or the intertwining of lives and time. A really great film that as you watch it you start picking up on little hints of what is going on but you don’t truly comprehend it till the end. Definitely recommend it!

It’s a Rainy Day in Hawai’i nei but that’s what keeps the grass green, the trees healthy, the rivers flowing and the aquifer for our fresh water full!

So what can YOU still do on a rainy day like today?

There are still quite a few great options on a rainy day like today:

Usually my first tip is to check the weather app and see if it’s raining all over the island or only in the area you are. Often just because it’s raining in Waikiki does not mean it’s raining on the North Shore.

So it’s raining across the whole island! What can you still do?

1) Check out Hawai’i Bishop Museum and learn about the incredible history of Hawai’i.

2) Visit Iolani Palace. Did you know that Iolani Palace had electricity and indoor plumbing BEFORE the White House?

3) Love art?! Check out Honolulu Museum of Art or Capitol Modernn

4) Interested in War History or Planes? Go to the Pacific Aviation Museum, or Hawai’i Army Museum

5) if you have children check out Waikiki Aquarium, Children’s Discovery Center, Kid City Adventure or Keiki Kingdom

6) See if there are any shows you want to see at Manoa Valley Theatre, Diamond Head Theater, Kumu Kahua Theatre, Hawaii Theatre, John F Kennedy Theatre, or more!

7) Enjoy shopping till you drop? We have several indoor malls including:Kahala Malll, Pearlridge Center, Waikiki Shopping Plaza or Windward Malll. You can still shop at Ala Moana Shopping Centerr, Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center or International Marketplace without getting too wet as well!

8. See if there any festivals or events happening at the Blaisedell or Hawai’i Convention Center!

Tell me! What’s your favorite rainy day adventure?

** PSA FROM A LOCAL **

DONT FORGET YOUR SUNCREEN.

I usually remember before I head but last year I went out to the racetrack at Aloha Stadium and I forgot. I was in the sun for maybe 2-3 hours.

YES. You need the sunscreen even if you are not heading to the beach. If you are going to park or hiking or plan on being outdoors midday.

WEAR SUNSCREEN! And REAPPLY! REAPPLY REAPPLY!!

Now for fun and entertainment and so I don’t feel as bad….

DROP YOUR WORST SUNBURN PHOTOS BELOW!!

Before anyone tells me the health risks of sun burn and lectures me. Yes I know. I just forgot and wanted to make a fun light hearted post (at my expense and for your benefit)

Note: Aloe is the best on burns. Apply immediately and hopefully learn your lesson.

Note: Please make sure you use reef safe sunscreen. This is required by law to protect our ocean.
