Hey LinkedIn, I wanted to share a video that I feel has a very empowering message that everyone should hear. We all fall victim to points in this video, even without realising it.

Usually, we ignore these things we do in our lives, and then blame all our pain and sorrow on some other minute problem, rather than focusing on the bigger, far more toxic reality.

The world has progressed unpreparedly fast over the last 2 decades, and uniformity in society has become increasingly common. I think it's important that we all hold our values close, rather than focusing on other people's that we follow on Instagram.

Regarding consistent creativity, the worst thing you can do to improve your art and stay afloat in the industry is to develop an overinflated ego. There have been periods, although I would not like to admit it, where my life has gotten hard and I've done all the wrong things to turn it around.

I would get compliments towards my music from my friends, which would in turn fuel a little tank in my head that screamed "I'm the greatest alive!" especially while under the influence of alcohol.

This eventually led to me believing I had already peaked musically, and there wasn't much point trying anymore because I would never make anything as good as certain songs.

This is a TERRIBLE mindset to have! You end up setting a mental cap on your creativity, disallowing yourself to succeed even if you're unaware of it.

BE PROUD OF YOUR WORK, AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT MORE YOU CAN DO

An unusual thing that I have found minimized my potential, both creatively and in consistency of workflow happened to be my setup.
I always had an itch to upgrade my equipment, either for my computer or physical synthesizers/drum machines. I felt that since many renowned artists were using either this thing or that, I should be too or else I'd NEVER be on their level.

So I decided to buy more stuff, which unironically GREATLY hampered my ability to be consistent. I had a new laptop and and new toys to mess around with, yet along the way, I seemed to have forgotten HOW I developed my sound, without relying on expensive tools.

Indeed, mental health is heavily tied to the type of music one makes.
Though it seems to be a widespread belief that somebody who is severely depressed will always pump out classic-level material, having people believe that "they're only good because they're depressed."

I can see some truth to this, as when you're mental health diminishes your thought process does too.
But this can also GREATLY decrease your consistency with creating, and can easily hamper your ability to create GREAT material.

MENTAL HEALTH SHOULD NEVER BE GLORIFIED

The last few months I've been in a bit of a creative rut, and I've though recently if picking up a new hobby would bring some of that creativity back out of me. I've specifically been thinking about painting! Does anyone think painting and music production are a good combo for creativity??
