On 20 September 2024, Divine Art is thrilled to join with pianist Dina Parakhina to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Diabelli Variations! Available for pre-order today at divineartrecords.com

Originally introduced by Anton Diabelli with words of admiration for its innovation and artistic brilliance, the Diabelli Variations have since transcended time, becoming a cornerstone of the piano repertoire, rivalling even the esteemed works of J.S. Bach. Renowned pianist Dina Parakhina, who first performed the Diabelli Variations during her final recital at the Moscow Conservatory, brings her deep understanding and lifelong study of this monumental work to her latest recording. I was saddened to hear that composer Wolfgang Rihm passed away this weekend at the age of 72. It is an honor to release my recording of his “Auf einem anderen Blatt” on my recording on September 20th. The video here is from my multimedia performance and was created by J Henry Fair to highlight the need to address the urgent climate crisis. I offer it here in memory of Wolfgang Rihm.

Don't miss Helen Leach's The Diary of the Bee in The Guardian's Contemporary Album of the Month features!

“Diary of a Bee (Divine Art) is a collection of very different nature-inspired chamber pieces by Helen Leach, a clarinettist, composer and church music director based in the Scottish borders. Among some delightful neoclassical whimsy, baroque regal tributes and nods to Robert Burns, the highlight is Letters from the Owl House, a solo for cellist Jennifer Langridge that taps into the pastoral yearning of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending.” —John Lewis https://bit.ly/3y7L8tF

Announcing an upcoming release of music by Seán Doherty — The Devil's Dream!
The chamber works of Doherty have been described as ‘unfailingly gripping’ (Irish Times) and ‘wonderfully imaginative, colourful’ (Irish Examiner). In these works, he blends Irish traditional and classical music to thrilling dramatic effect. The works explore themes of death and mourning, as well as major events in Irish history: the Great Famine, the Easter Rising, and the Troubles. A sensation with live audiences, this is the first studio recording of these works.

This album brings together leading performers from Irish traditional and classical worlds. The Sonoro Quartet is one of the premier string quartets of their generation. Based in the Netherlands, they were chosen as the European Concert Hall Organisation’s ‘Rising Stars’ for the 2023–24 season. Irish soprano Sylvia O’Brien is a renowned interpreter of contemporary Irish music, having performed numerous prestigious international premieres, as well as works by many composers who have written specifically for her voice. Mark Redmond is an important exponent of the uilleann pipes, the Irish bagpipe, who, with his extensive performing and recording career, has introduced the instrument to new audiences internationally. They are joined by other exceptional traditional musicians: Lauren O’Neill, Molly Tobin, Robert Harvey, and Doherty himself.

This album is a striking portrait of one of Ireland’s leading young composers. The recording has been made in 2023 in Dublin by engineer Richard Duckworth, who is a lecturer in music technology at Trinity College, Dublin.

A fresh-faced new recording of Schubert’s Trout Quintet featuring Boyden’s New Queen’s Hall Orchestra Players, commissioned specially for this release and recorded at Henry Wood Hall last year, is also part of the deal.”

Nathan Williamson and James gilchrist's “The Songs of Thomas Pitfield” gets a fantastic review in the latest issue of Gramophone! We have TWO more in our series of releases featuring the works of Thomas Pitfield coming next month, and based on this review, it seems they are just in time: “a quietly compelling portrait that reveals Pitfield as a composer deserving of far wider exposure than he has hitherto received.” —Andrew Achenbach https://bit.ly/3Y95ZYf
