God is in the transformation business.

Rom.9:25-26
As he says in Hosea:
“I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people; and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”
and, “In the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people, there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’”

1 Peter 2:10 NIV
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy

THE SAMARITAN AND VOTING
There isn't a thing you can say about voting that I probably haven't at least considered at one time or another. That voting for the "lesser of the evils" is still voting for evil, or that it's all just a farce (that the oligarchs pre-determine the outcome and make it so), or that voting belongs to the worldly folk.... or other ideas that lead us to the same conclusion: Why bother to vote? Even if the "better" candidate won, isn't it just sustaining a dying patient a little longer?

But, if you are a Christian, I do want to share a few questions/thoughts with you.

Do you believe that God put you here on this earth for a purpose beyond your own salvation? Do you believe He put you in/brought you to America? Do you believe that He put you here for this time in history? Do you believe that the devil is limited in what he can accomplish, but that God can overthrow the plans of the wicked? As for me, I believe that the answer to all of the above is "yes."

Jesus tells a story about a man who was robbed and left to die on a deserted road. Religious folk passed him by, fearing what sort of person he was and wanting to keep themselves from being made unclean by touching him. But a Samaritan man came, dressed the man's wounds, and took him to an inn where he could remain while he healed. Jesus doesn't say what sort of man the victim was. Was he a drunk, a thief, or a good man? We aren't told. We also aren't privy to what happened after the Samaritan saved him. What did the man do with the opportunity he was given? Was he grateful? Did he live his "best life" after that? Did he go out and die a month later? Jesus doesn't say—because the result of the Samaritan's work wasn't the point, it was mercy—his willingness to put himself out there, risk getting dirty, and spend his own resources to give a stranger an opportunity to live. And all that with no promise of it going well.

The point is to do what we can with the choices we have right now to give more people the opportunity for life. To say we have no responsibility or no stake in the course of this country is a lie. While this world (and this country) are ultimately not our home, we were put here with a purpose. Are we to be the religious people or the Samaritans of the parable? Will we step around the edges of a country that is clearly fading because we see getting involved is a dirty job with no guarantee of a glory story (and we may be departing soon anyhow), or will we choose to do what is still in our hands to do today and trust God for the result?

Perhaps God put us in a country where we can still vote—for such a time as this.

Somewhere between 250,000 and 500,000 women gathered in Washington DC last Saturday to pray for our nation. One of the many who spoke and led prayers was Dutch Sheets:

RESTORING AMERICA’S COVENANT WITH GODINTRODUCTIONIt was an honor to serve my friend, Lou Engle, at the A Million Women gathering at the Washington Mall on Saturday. Though there were not a million gathered, I’ve heard estimates ranging from 250,000 to twice that; by noon their website had receiv...

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. [1 Kings 19:11-13]

1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
2 He will not shout or cry out,
or raise his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not s***f out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; [Isaiah 42:1-3]

I'm not saying we should never raise our voices, I'm saying that loud, emotional, fiery displays are sometimes just that and no more. The fact that something can draw people doesn't mean God is in it. If drama and shaking the rafters are considered necessary for ministry... perhaps it's time to seek the Lord.

God is not hard of hearing. Neither is the devil… so we must consider the point in what we are doing.

ANOINTING is when God breathes on it, not simply because we turn up the gain.

Insomnia... at different seasons in life, many of us wrestle with it. Here's a suggestion for the next time you can't get to sleep: Try to think of names, titles, or attributes of God--in alphabetical order, one name or attribute for each letter. If you get all the way to the end, give it another go... using different words than the first time. Even if it doesn't help you sleep, it'll put you in a better frame of mind! (Unless you speak multiple languages, you have to add a little something to X. 😊)

It's easy for people to think there is no God when they spend so much of their time surrounded by man-made things. They can look at technological achievements and think that man can solve any problem... But for all of man's "advancements," people aren't living any longer than humans did during the time of hunter-gatherers. Despite all the ways we're offered to relax, the number of people experiencing life-controlling fear, anger, and depression is off the charts.

But, when we allow ourselves to just take in the wonders of creation, to see how all of nature has worked in a continuous harmonious dance, how can we be fooled into believing that all of it just happened to fall together and come to life? It's like hurling trillions of individual letters out into space and believing they will come together as a fully formed encyclopedia that can continuously rearrange and edit itself.

There are times when a single verse is used to promote something that isn’t true in context. This verse, however, gives the verses that follow THE context we need to see.

"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." --Eph. 6:11-17

How many people are happily going out to face the world wearing PART of the armor God tells us to wear? It's for our own safety and for the protection of the Church!

--”Shoes? I don’t like shoes! My feet are tough, they can take me anywhere I need to go.”

--”Goin’ gangsta today, don’t need a belt.”

--”This helmet is too heavy… and my baseball cap is way cooler.”

--”Who wants to lug a sword and a shield around all day? Besides my enemies might see them and take it as me being aggressive!”

--“Breastplate? Are you kidding? Who wears those anymore? And besides, I work from home so… don’t really need one.”

Yet…we are told to put on the whole armor.

Satan has been studying human behavior since Adam and Eve. He knows where to find you and he knows where you are vulnerable. Wear the armor God gave you.
