The "refugee route"
This is the way the refugees from Norway used when they needed to escape from n**i occupation during WW2. They walked all the way to Sweden, that was not occupied.
Today Den Norske Turistforening (DNT) (the norwegian tourist organization) have made signs along the route, and everyone can walk in the footsteps of the refugees. Along the way there is info signs who tells the story piece by piece.

A little glimpse from the manuscript!

It is springtime in Norway. The weather is hot. I have finally put aside all my winter clothes. There is no such thing as a Norwegian longing for the winter to get away. Longing for the first glimpse of summer and sunshine. We all get out when it is getting warmer. The dark and cold winter is finally over. If you listen to the sound behind me, I am sitting in a restaurant called “Hygge”. It is hard to translate that word directly into English, but it is a Norwegian word for describing the feeling of having a good time. “Ha det hyggelig.” The word is often used describing an experience you had with family or friends. “We went to that place and had a really nice time together” will be “we went to that place and it was “hyggelig.”

Please help us to share this podcast.

In the next episode The Norwegian StoryTeller talks about her life experience. Once she was a patient in psychiatry, and this led to profound changes in her life. It also made her see the dark sides of society, even in a wealthy prosperous country like Norway.

Later, she would get a job as a communications worker in an organization working on mental health projects in Nepal. Listen to the story of how the projects in Nepal also inspired her back home. It's not that everything is right in a wealthy country and everything is wrong in a poor country. Often, this is much more nuanced.

Together, we can work for better global mental health! 🧚‍♀️

The Norwegian StoryTELLER
A Taste of Norwegian Wit: Savoring the Language's Juicy Metaphors

APRIL 03, 2024 LINE KONSTALI SEASON 1 EPISODE 7

Ever wondered why someone in Norway might accuse you of being 'apple-handsome' or 'high on a pear'? Buckle up for a linguistic ride through the orchard of Norwegian expressions where we reveal how common words in Norway aren't just about taste, but also about painting colorful pictures of our emotions and perceptions. Our latest episode is ripe with juicy insights, as we uncover why feeling 'sour' could mean you're more than just in need of some sugar, and how being 'crispy' goes way beyond describing the perfect snack.

Prepare to be entertained and perhaps a bit puzzled, as we navigate through the charming maze of Norway's most curious sayings—no guest needed when the language itself steals the show. Is there really an 'owl in the moss', or is something amiss? We'll tackle this and more, giving you a peck of delightful tidbits to share at your next gathering. Don't worry, by the end of our chat, you won't be left thinking you're on a 'berry trip'—instead, you'll be confidently using these phrases like a true Norwegian, all the while looking forward to the unraveling of the Marius pattern in our next episode's promise of continued cultural exploration.

The Global Pulse of Disability Rights and the Human Spirit

APRIL 02, 2024 LINE KONSTALI SEASON 1 EPISODE 6

When we peel back the layers of society's attitudes toward disability, we find stories that resonate across borders and hearts. Enter the world of Jan Grue, a Norwegian professor with a muscle disorder, whose memoir "I Live a Life Like Yours" has earned acclaim from none other than Michael J. Fox. The profound connection between these two men, each grappling with their physical conditions, highlights the universal struggle against ableism—a subject that hits close to home for many. We don't just share stories; we confront the uncomfortable truths and the legislative landscapes that define the lives of disabled individuals globally.

Our journey through the nuances of ableism takes us from Norway's welfare state, with its paradoxes and shortcomings, to the contrasting rights and accessibility found in the United States. Through the insights of researcher Inger Marie Lied, we unravel the evolution from a medical to a social understanding of disability, revealing a world where structural issues are often dismissed as oversights, and the shame of disability leads many to hide their challenges. As we unpack these layers, we seek to ignite a conversation that not only shines a light on the barriers but also paves the way for a society that embraces inclusion at every turn. Join us for this compelling session that promises to enlighten and inspire action towards a more equitable world for all.

Navigating the Shadows of Inclusion: Confronting Ableism in Norway's Job Market

APRIL 01, 2024 LINE KONSTALI SEASON 1 EPISODE 5

When I stepped into the interview room, I never imagined that my health condition would overshadow my qualifications. The silence that followed my disclosure was deafening, marking the start of my stark encounter with ableism in Norway's job market. On this episode, I share the often untold story of a society applauded for its inclusivity, yet one that quietly lets down its citizens with disabilities. Researcher Gagan Chhabra unravel the deep-seated biases that pervade even the most progressive of welfare states, and how these prejudices can stifle the dreams of competent individuals seeking fair employment.

With Chhabra's findings as our guide, we dissect the everyday hurdles that come with a disability, from the subtle to the blatantly discriminatory. We discuss the stark contrast between Norway's promising legislation and the real-life job experiences of young adults with visual impairments, a topic that parallels Chhabra's work in both Oslo and Delhi. This episode isn't just a confessional of personal struggles; it's a rallying cry to acknowledge our own biases and a proposition for a collective shift towards genuine inclusivity. Listen as we confront the uncomfortable truths and seek not only to atone for our own ignorance but also to ignite a broader conversation on valuing each person's potential.

Uncovering Quirks of Norwegian Identity: Skiing, Humor, and Cultural Legacy

MARCH 31, 2024 LINE KONSTALI SEASON 1 EPISODE 4

Ever wondered why certain pastimes become so ingrained in a culture that they shape a nation's identity? Imagine a childhood where the heroes weren't caped crusaders, but cross-country skiers gliding across snowy landscapes, and where chocolate bars are not just treats, but an integral part of hiking traditions. This week, I'm peeling back the layers of what it means to be Norwegian, inspired by the side-splitting reflections of Zahid Ali, a stand-up comedian with a talent for pinpointing the quirks of our cultural identity. His observations on the peculiar reasons Norwegians choose where to live have me questioning – and laughing at – the stereotypes we so often take for granted.

As we swap tales and chuckle over our collective obsession with skiing, I confess my own disconnect with this cherished national pastime. Yet, through the epic story of 'The Last King' and the legendary Birkebeiners, I find a thread of connection to this legacy that surprises me. Join me for a candid exploration of heritage, humor, and self-perception, where we'll explore why, despite my aversion to skiing, I can't help but feel a part of the ski-centric conversations that define so much of our social fabric. Who knows, by the end of our chat, you might just discover if there's a Birkebanner lurking in your heart too.

Harmony of Healing: Reflections on Faith, Forgiveness, and Overcoming Adversity

MARCH 29, 2024 LINE KONSTALI SEASON 1 EPISODE 3

As a child wrapped in the comfort of my Christian upbringing, I never imagined the trials that my faith and mental well-being would endure. Today, I lay bare the intricacies of navigating the stormy waters of adolescence, mental health, and spirituality. In an intimate reflection, I recount the lessons of forgiveness and reconciliation that have been the bedrock of my journey, particularly during the solemnity of Good Friday. The echoes of Christmas and Easter within my life serve as beacons, reminding me of the delicate dance between joy and suffering, and the resilience found in embracing vulnerability.

The conversation takes a heartfelt turn, delving into themes of betrayal and redemption that have marked my personal narrative. I share stories of feeling abandoned in times of need and confront the discomfort of acknowledging my own failures. Yet, in this vulnerability, I find a message of hope. I draw parallels to the humbling rite of foot washing, which for me, symbolizes the bridge to unconditional love despite our imperfections. Bjørn Eidsvåg's music has been a companion in my spiritual growth, and his melodies about betrayal and forgiveness resonate deeply. Join us as we journey through the landscape of human frailty and the redemptive power of faith.

MAR 27, 2024 SEASON 1 EPISODE 2
Line Konstali

As I navigate the ebb and flow of life, I can't help but reminisce about the moments that have sculpted me, from the tender echoes of '90s love songs to the triumphant conquering of speech sound hurdles. Aboard this episode, you're invited to a nostalgic trip to 1998's Norway, where the romance of Titanic stirred more than just cinematic hearts. I weave you through my own love story with Anders, a narrative shimmering with the innocence and passion of Rose and Jack's affair, and how those reenacted scenes bound us in a way only true love letters to celluloid can. Join us for this tender chronicle, as we affirm the worth of each small victory and the collective embrace of our personal milestones.

Ever wrestled with a challenge that seemed to define you? My journey with the English 'R' might echo within your own tales of linguistic loops. Over 43 years, this storyteller has embraced the 'R' and, with it, a world where my tales traverse borders. It's a testament to perseverance and the magic of language, a narrative that resonates whether you're from eastern Norway or elsewhere on this vast globe. In sharing my breakthroughs and inviting you to share yours on my Patreon community, we stitch a rich tapestry of human experience. Tune in to this chapter and let's journey together through the brighter and shadowed paths of our lives, narrated with the newfound clarity of a storyteller who has found her voice.
