SO many of us get ‘Eco guilt’ (when we feel we’ve done something bad for the planet) — but it’s important to acknowledge and counter it… and most importantly, turn it into positive action.

But what is that action?? 🤔
Once upon a time, I’d have focused on developing better eco-friendly habits, government pressure and spreading the word — all of which are obviously important. But when I saw ’s Climate Action Venn diagram — and then watched her talk on How to Find Joy in Climate Action — it all felt a bit like an epiphany. It just makes SO. MUCH. SENSE.

Of course I’m still going to suffer a twang of guilt next time I forget my reusable coffee cup or shopping bag BUT I will 100% be trying to switch my thinking & focus on where I can make the most impact, long term. Make a plan. Fill in your own 💚

The beauty industry generates a LOT of waste through packaging. 120 billion units a year and counting… 💔

If make up or skincare products are on your Christmas list - for yourself or others - opt for refillable options, or brands with eco values you support. 🙌 💚

The average carbon footprint per person in the UK is 12.7 tonnes of CO2 per year. The equivalent of eating 1,000 beef steaks.

Have you any idea what yours is?

It’s worth tracking it, for the simple reason that if you measure it, you can shrink it. 👍

I used the ’s Footprint Calculator app which is a great place to start for this. Very easy and straightforward to use. Packed with ideas and challenges to help you reduce your impact. 🙌💚

Mine was 7.82 which I was surprised by. I thought it would be lower! 😬 My car travel and food wastage being two areas letting me down (I’m blaming my kids!😉). But I know where I need to improve, that’s the useful thing about the process.

Pawprint is another excellent app that helps you monitor your footprint, track new actions, create sustainable habits, and even join like-minded communities and groups. 🐾 👍

🌿Simply by moving to a predominantly plant-based diet we can reduce our footprint by up to 73%😲, according to researchers at the University of Oxford.

🚴🏼 Active transport (cycling/walking) is another area that makes a significant impact on our carbon emissions. 💚

Have you tracked your footprint? What surprising things did you learn?

Research shows more than 6 in 10 younger consumers (under 30) consider a company’s ethical values before buying their products.

It’s clear more of us than ever want to shop ‘for good’, to help reduce negative impact to the planet and its people.

Brand directories can be a valuable tool in guiding us. My issue with some directories is they seem to go a bit beyond highlighting details of a brand’s ethics and veer towards pushing the consumer to shop. The most ethical choice is obviously to not buy anything new at all. 👍Buying preloved, secondhand wins every time. Celebrate if & when you can do this 🙌- it’s a joyful moment when you find something awesome via the likes of , or !

But when we ARE in the market to buy new, it’s important to do our research rather than choose a brand simply for price (if in the privileged position to have flexibility on this) or convenience.

So which brand directories can help? And with an ever growing number, which ones can we trust have done their research? 🤔 Here are 6 essential directories to have on your radar..

Happy Earth Day 🌎🌱~ ‘Restore Our Earth’ is the theme this year, with the focus being not only on how we can reduce our impact but also on how we might actively repair ecosystems. 🌳

Things we can do:
IF YOU HAVE A GARDEN:
~ Plant native seeds in your garden or open spaces.
~ Create a meadow or replace some of the lawn area with a grove of trees or shrubs; provide a water source like a bird bath.

IN YOUR COMMUNITY:
~ Host a litter pick activity in your local area and help clean up your main parks, streets and beaches.
~ Contact your local MP; Climate charity ‘Hope for the Future’ has created a series of letter templates we can use (for those in the UK) for starting climate conversations.

VOLUNTEERING:
~ Volunteer to help professional researchers at Zooniverse. You don’t need any specialist background or training; they just need people who can give their time. Head to zooniverse.org and check out their current projects.

~ Get involved in tree planting. Join the Tree Council’s network to become a tree warden & help conserve trees in your area. Trees for Cities is another organisation that runs tree-planting projects.

For those of us who buy makeup and beauty products, but are conscious of our impact on the planet, refillable beauty is 💯 the way forward. 🙌💚

Here are 8 refillable beauty brands to have on your eco radar...

Plus 5 beauty packaging facts to get your head around...

Please share any refill brands you love below!

🌱It’s estimated that 12 billion tonnes of beauty packaging will be in landfill by 2050

🌱Around 30-40% of current landfill waste is down to cosmetics packaging, according to Women's Health

🌱The average woman owns more than 40 different make-up products, but only uses five of them daily

🌱Over 95% of beauty packaging is thrown out after just one use

🌱Research from The LCA Centre says that buying a refill instead of a new product saves 70% CO2, 65% energy and 45% water.

Monday meat-free meal goals 💚😋 via the amazing 🙏

A vegan curry is such a good way of using up leftover veggies ~ cauliflower, squash, broccoli, courgette, carrots, parsnips, tomatoes, spinach... whatever’s going! Serve with quinoa, chilli flakes and garnish with coriander.

When/how do you make your meal plan for the week? I tend to do mine on a Sunday night but this week it’s today!

By knowing exactly what we’re going to be eating each night, we’ll be able to use up whatever’s left lying around in the fridge, and buy only the food we need.

Recycling symbols can confuse all of us! There’s still so much variation and vagueness and differences across regions / councils - which doesn’t help at all. 🤯

Here’s a quick guide to clear things up a bit. Remember: not all packaging will have a recycling label but this doesn't mean you can't recycle it.

If you’re unsure about the recyclability of any packaging and you’re based in the UK, pop your postcode into Recycle Now’s Recycling Locator. It will tell you what you can put in your recycling bin at home as well as the other facilities around you.👍💚♻️
