As an artist, I constantly feel the need to develop my skills and stay updated with the latest editing and photography techniques. The thing about being an artist is that there's always a sense of not knowing enough. The more you learn, the more you realize there is still so much to discover. I love this feeling because being stagnant is quite boring. I enjoy the idea of growing, discovering new things, and continually improving. 🌱⁣
 ⁣⁣
I discovered studio lighting 11 years ago. At that time, I knew nothing about it since I primarily worked with natural light. Since then, I've learned various lighting techniques, tested, tried, and failed multiple times. Even after all these years of using studio lights, I still feel like there's so much more to learn. As a product photographer, it's crucial to keep sharpening my knowledge, exploring new methods, and experimenting independently to deliver great results to my customers. 📷 ⁣⁣

📸✨Elevate your photography game with simple flat-lays! Here are some quick tips to create easy top-down compositions:⁣

𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲: Select items that follow a theme – whether it's fall vibes 🍂🍁 or vibrant summer hues ☀️⛱️, a cohesive theme brings the elements together.⁣

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Choose a clean, colorful or neutral background to make your subject pop. Marble surfaces, wooden tables, or even backgrounds with textures can work really well. 🎨🖼️⁣

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Use what you have. If you don’t have strobes or any other source of artificial light you can do your setup near a window to capture natural light. Harsh shadows or soft shadows are your choice. ☀️🔦⁣

𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆: Place the largest item first and build around it. Start simple and add things that complement the scene. If you feel something is off, remove it or place it somewhere else. Experiment with layouts until you find a visually pleasing arrangement. 👁️🔍⁣

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀: Capture different angles to add depth and dimension. Experiment with overhead shots or slightly tilted perspectives. 📐📷⁣

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺: Less can be more. Embrace negative space to let your subject breathe and keep the composition uncluttered. 🔲◻️⁣

𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁: Mix textures and contrasting elements for visual interest. A combination of soft and hard, matte and shiny, adds dynamic to the shot. 🎨✨⁣

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: Incorporate props that complement your main subject and help convey a story or mood. 📚📖⁣

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝗽: Creating a captivating flat-lay takes time, patience and experimentation. Don't be afraid of trying, failing and tweaking here and there until it looks just right. You got this! ⏳👊⁣

I would love to see what you do with these tips. Send me a private message of your flat-lays! 📷 ⁣

⁣Let’s talk about flat-lay photography! 📸✨ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Flat-lay photography is a technique of arranging, styling and capturing objects from a top-down perspective on a flat surface to create visually appealing compositions.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Flat-lays are perfect when you want to showcase multiple elements in a single shot, like for product photography. They're great for capturing details, textures, and creating a mood around your items. Flat-lays can be used for fashion, beauty, food, and lifestyle products – it's a chance to tell a mini visual tale in a single frame!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐏𝐫𝐨-𝐭𝐢𝐩: Flat-lay is all about experimenting with light, textures, shapes, sizes, etc. ⁣⁣
Play around with different angles, lighting, and arrangements to find that perfect balance. Don't be afraid to experiment – that's where the magic happens! ✨⁣⁣

This year's Christmas card has Aiko as a model.⁣
He is our standard poodle dog that doesn't mind modeling as long as there are treats around and lots of praise. 🐩⁣

We had a spontaneous mini photo session in our living room at home.

May this season bring you peace, healing, joy and love. 🎄⁣

🎥❗𝗠𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗬 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗢𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗕𝗘❗🎥

For years, I’ve considered the possibility of starting a YouTube channel that can provide value to people and allow me to expand my knowledge.

My fear of almost never being able to finish my personal projects was part of the reason why I haven’t dared to do it. I’ve been thinking deeply about whether I should or shouldn’t start diving into the YouTube creative world. I have over-thought the idea for many years and that was followed by inaction. But it gets to a point where you either take an action, or you choose not to and be at peace with it. 🙏

I couldn’t be at peace because there’s this inner voice telling me to Go For It - you have nothing to lose! I have chosen to take a step forward by pressing the record button on my camera when I filmed this video.
Procrastination and self-doubt have been my worst enemies and it has been challenging to deal with it. I’ve consumed a great amount of content on these topics and I realised that the more I fight it, the more accomplished and satisfied I feel about myself. As my husband says, you are what you choose to be!
This YouTube video is certainly a great conquest to me because it pushed me to overcome my fears. 👊

Some of the reasons why I chose to invest my time and energy on the YouTube platform is because I would like to provide value to a community that might need it.
Producing videos will challenge me and allow me to develop and learn more skills within filming, editing and photography and in return, you will hopefully benefit from it too. ☺️

In this particular video. I’m sharing with you the creative process behind product photography - the planning, styling and shooting. People usually have misconceptions about what photographers do, why and how.

In this video I will walk you through my creative process step-by-step and shed some light on what it is I do and how. 📷

Thanks for watching and follow me on this new journey by 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗡𝗚 to my channel and sharing it! 👇

Hi everyone! 👋

Some weeks ago, I was surprised to know that some of my friends and acquaintances aren’t aware that I'm running my own business since 2020.

I wrote this article to explain the process and how it all started. This was a difficult one to write. It comes from a place filled with vulnerability to hopefully inspire you to overcome your fears and chase after your dreams.

You will not find tips on how to overcome fear here. Instead you will find my personal story.

In 2020, I started my photo business and this is a story were suffering became a blessing! 👇

Hi everyone! Some weeks ago, I was surprised to know that some of my friends and acquaintances aren’t aware that I'm running my own business since 2020. To be honest, I'm scared.

It’s that wonderful time of the year. Christmas is here… As I’m gathering with my family and friends in the living room, I’m reminded about the year that is soon over.

It was an intense year with hard work and impactful changes but one that will be remembered.

One of the highlights of the year has been the unexpected growth of my photography business, which I thought not to be possible during pandemic times.
I couldn’t have come this far if it wasn’t for the support of my wise husband, my dear customers that believe in my work and last but certainly not least, the family and friends that cheer me on.

Despite the difficulties and challenges, I’m beyond grateful for everything that is currently happening in my life and especially for all the great people that surround me with love and care.

Thanks for making my days brighter!
May God bless you this season and give you peace!

My Story

Hi!

I'm Daniela Halvorsen. A creative and passionate photographer, video creator and storyteller, with a keen eye for detail.

My portfolio ranges from commercial work to portraits. I have years of experience in product/commercial photography, portraits, events, lifestyle photography, weddings, families, new born, food, nature, anything and everything I find interesting. But let me tell you how it all started. First, sit back on your comfy chair, grab your favorite drink and relax while reading the text below.

Once upon a time there was a girl lost in this world, without a clue of what to do in life... All she knewn was that arts has always followed her around, since she was a tiny little human. But, only in 2008 her first steps were taken towards what truly became her passion, Photography. Before I got my first expensive compact camera, a friend of mine, Andre Nobre, introduced me to photography. We worked together at McDonald's and he had invited me for a portrait session where I was going to be a model. I was a teenager, still trying to find my place in the world, and I said yes to his invitation. We had such a great time together that eventually we took more photos. I’ve always looked up to him. He is super creative and talented. I knew I could learn a lot from him. At the time, he was finding his voice as a photographer, while I was trying to find my direction. Soon enough, other photographers found me and took photos of me too. But I figured that modeling wasn’t for me. I decided to switch roles and that’s when I became a photographer. Being a model first, gave me useful knowlegde on how to pose my own models. And so, I began to photograph friends in a discovery of what I liked and who I wanted to be. Before I actually started to photograph people, I photographed things that I find weird today, like doors, streets, cats, lamps. That’s when you know you are at a beginner level. I engaged on a photo club in my city and we had photography trips meant to learn from each other. At that time, I had dropped school. I didn’t like school. Too much theory and too little hands-on. Boring. I ended up investing a lot of hours in photography. I bought photography magazines, got in touch with other photographers, took photos, analysed other photographers work, etc. Learn, practise, repeat. I was eager to learn, and I did. I felt I had found my direction in terms of career choices. But I was still very uncertain about it and I honestly didn’t know what to do in life. Pessimistic comments such as: “You are not going to have a future as a photographer”, “There is no money in photography” - really made me doubt about my choices.
