The new 60 Minutes Australia episode featuring our dude, James Cameron, discussing the Titan OceanGate tragedy from last year recently aired.
What did I think of it?
First off: the Titan tragedy is exactly that. A 100% tragedy that shouldn't have happened. My thoughts have always gone out to the families and friends of those on board, including Stockton Rush.
Did I take away anything NEW with this special? Not really. It's really just a retrospective one year later kinda special.
The involvement of Cameron is great because he IS one of the world's best experts on both deep-sea exploration AND the real Titanic, which the Titan was going to visit. He also knew P.H. Nargeolet personally and was friends with him.
JC is such a great speaker! That's a takeaway, although I've always known this. He just has a way of speaking that makes you listen. At least I do. Probably the thing I'll remember the most of what he said was his iffy comparison of the banging noises to that of a sparrow farting. "Maybe a metaphor you'll want to cut out."
Another takeaway is the ending, where he mentions his desire to return to Titanic once again to prove it's safe to do so IF done correctly and without cutting corners.
Those are MY thoughts. What are YOUR thoughts if you've seen the episode?
