This week we continued June Tunes with a special (brief) case about a childhood favorite! “Polly” is a delightful musical adaptation of the novel “Pollyanna” that takes place in Alabama in 1955. It premiered on the Wonderful World of Disney in 1989 and has a staggering 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, despite the fact that it’s not available to stream anywhere (including Disney+). The only place to watch this gem is YouTube, and we highly recommend it! 📻 🌈

Did you know that when Don Bluth was fifteen-years-old he had his first lesson in animation? Former Disney animator Wetzel Orson “Judge” Whitaker took a job at Brigham Young University and Bluth took the opportunity to make an appointment with him. At one point in their meeting, Don asked the animator why he left Disney, and Whitaker explained that while he loved animating, he had come to a crossroads in his life and he felt something pulling him to the University. As Don Bluth recounts in his book Somewhere Out There: My Animated Life, he made a vow in front of Whitaker that once he made it to Disney’s studio, he would never leave. To that Whitaker quietly responded, “Perhaps. We’ll see.”

Today we announced that season 9 (our upcoming season) will also be our final season. It's been a wonderful ride, and we're so grateful to everyone who has laughed and learned with us.
That being said, let's make season 9 the best season yet!

He’s the ghost with the most! Our is Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! This classic from 1988 is a must-watch for us every October, and Danny Elfman’s score always ends up on our Halloween playlists!
Our is Paranorman (2012)! This sweetly spooky stop-motion gem is just what you need to get into the Halloween spirit. This was Laika’s 2nd film (after Coraline) and first original screenplay! It’s available to stream on Starz, Tubi, and PlutoTV.

Did you know?! We didn’t! Special effects creator Kenneth Strickfaden had kept the equipment in his garage for several years before offering to rent it to the production of Young Frankenstein. He was on set to watch the scenes that featured his work!
